Amazing!! ClapHands
I've got to say it's turning out pretty good, take you time and get her right.
As Sweeks said, you may have to trim the flaring around the stator to make it flush.
How much does it have to go in? May be you could trim the inside edge and it will get flush where you want it. IDK
Looking good so far!

The end of it is suppose to be touching the frame like it is on the other side
take a look at the first two pics and you can see how far its got to go.. :yikes:

I see! :yikes: Just cut the the flaring where the stator is, then add fiberglass to the back of that piece you cut going to the frame to make it nice and strong. Don't look like any other way around it. That's just the thing with modding flarings, you got to modify it, if it don't fit right. Why didn't you just try your old side flarings with the new front flaring? But as we said before, cut it! my2cents The YZF tank would look better, the R6's or 1's don't fit flush because of the frame design for them.

Iv allready cut some things off of the fairings to make it fit, but its nothing noticable.
Im going to have to cut around the stator, and I was planning on fiberglassing on the back...
but for some reason fiberglass really sucks at sticking to that abs plastic....
I didnt use the stock sides because I dont like the stock ones. the vent selection on it is very...yea...it looks like whoever designed it wasnt even paying attention and just slapped them on there. they vents dont match eachother...ones boxy and the other curvy...

Try to rough up the surface you are going to apply the fiberglass too, may stick better.
Well, good luck.

I was starring at the first pic in my post, and I thought, well, maybe I should do an undertail exhaust as well as Mark is...but If I were to do that, then I would need to get the 04-06 r1 tail but I dont want to lose my speaker setup :(
oh the decisions I have to make...

I fiberglassed the back side of the panel, and cut it a little, It looks like its going to be fine with it cut out.
and its must stronger with the 3 layers of fiberglass I put on the back...lol

all is going well.

I wish I had a welder so I could start on welding the mounts for the plastics on the frame :whistle

I dont really like the yzf tank that much...and everyone else is doing that tank on there fzr.

im going to try and see if the full r1 tank will fit (not just the cover, the whole setup)
I dont want to have to built a tank from scratch like you guys all did.
I don't like the YZF600 tank that much either, I used a 2000 R6 tank, but I had to adjust my handlebars out just a hair because my wrists hit the tank on tight turns. And I'm making little fiberglass fairing pieces to fill a gap on the side of the tank by the frame. oh, and i i don't know how much harder it was to fit compared to the yzf600 tank, but it was a little difficult. I was looking at the 04 - 06 R1 tank, depending on how wide the frame is, it might take the exact same rear bracket mine does.

And I can always weld up my own bracket onto the tank to make it mount where ever I want it to.
I have to find a cheap tank.

does anyone know if the r1 fuel pump is the same as our fzr's?

How's that speaker on there work anyways? Do you have a head unit on the bike somewhere or do you just have it wired to a male headphone jack so you can plug it into an ipod?

I like your setup. Can you hear it when the bike is running?

you can at idle!

but the point of the speaker isnt to hear when riding, I personaly enjoy the sound of my bike and music would just be some distraction
The purpose of it is when im sitting at like 7-eleven with my other bike buddies, we can listen to music while we're just hanging out.

I looked into it when I thought about mounting the R1 fuel pump to the bottom of my R6 tank after my pump went out.

98 - 01 R1 and the 99 - 02 R6 both mount the same way to the bottom of the tank, and unless you use home-made brackets, you can't mount the FZR pump to the bottom of the first generation R1/R6 tank.

02 and up R1's and 03 - 08 R6/R6s all use fuel pumps that sit inside the tank. So if you do get an 02 and up R1 tank, make sure it comes with the fuel pump, because there is absolutely no way you can use the FZR fuel pump with it unless you make some special block-off plate for the bottom of the tank to patch the huge gaping hole where the fuel pump was. That would be too much trouble anyway.

I might end up putting a newer R1 or R6 tank on my bike later on, and i've been thinking about using the tanks with the internal fuel pump, just so the fuel pump will be out of the way when I pull off the tank. Plus, the newer tanks look sweet.

Also, do the same thing i'm doing if you go for the R1 fuel pump. Since the FZR fuel pump goes through the little relay box, and since that box is so friggin expensive, get a 4-prong relay and have the relay pack trigger the regular 4-prong relay to turn on the R1 fuel pump. I'm afraid that it might (and i say might, not will) pull more power than the stock fuel pump and fry the relay pack. I've never opened up one of those relay boxes, but I'm told it's not actually like a traditional relay, it's more like a big circuitboard than a relay, and I don't want to risk frying it. So get a $5 relay and wire it in with the fuel pump going through the new relay and pulling power directly form the battery, to be safe. I'd rather lose $5 and not worry, than fry a $70 relay pack.
