Popped the bike on the scale to satisfy my curiousity. Weighed 202lbs on the front and 193lbs on the rear. Totalling to 395lbs fully fueled, soaking wet. I have found reports ont he internet of the FZR400 being 415lbs wet. So I am a little disappointed that it isn't lighter given the weight of the subframe I shaved off, and the weight of the bodywork. I could have saved about 10lbs if I just went with the stock FZR swinger... Now I am thinking about going back. However I still think I will try to put the GSXR600 swingarm back on which will get me like 5lbs back. Luckily I have a stock FZR400 in the garage that I will throw on the scale too and report weight for.
However I still think I can save some weight by going to a lighter exhaust (carbon) and maybe some hindle SS headers I heard they were supposed to be quite a bit lighter. Lighter fuel tank (maybe a later R6 model) and rearsets... beyond that I am kind of out of ideas as far as shedding weight. I could possibly redo the whole wiring harness to streamline it as there seems to be quite a bit of excess there.
Yeah i thought it would be lighter than that, 06 07 R6 tanks is pretty darn light. Im hoping to be at 340 pounds with the ex 500 motor, we will see how that works out. You could put Sharkskinz on it, or hotbodies there pretty darn light, im sure you can find a way to shave some more pounds off it.
Would be great to see 340lbs. But how are you going to shed all that? I know it's possible, but speaking from a practical $$$ spent point of view I think it will be somewhat of a challenge. XIAN got his bike down to 335 all fueled up but would not divulge any information to me about it. He said "Knowledge costs money" So I asked him how much money he wanted to tell me. But he didn't reply. I would actually pay for a listof the things he did.
What I know of was.
- GSXR USD front end with galfer wave rotors and carbon fender
- No igniition, chopped wiring harness, no lights etc
- Aluminum fuel tank
- Vacuum fuel pump (lighter than reular pump and doesnt draw electricity)
- Light weight battery
- I have his motor in my bike (FZR bottom end YZF600 top end). Which can't be that light of a motor (at least comparing to modern bikes).
- Aluminum and titanium bolts throughout the bike <-- I am thinking this might be a big one.
- Small brembo rear caliper
- OW01 rear rim (don't know if this was lighter or not)
- 520 chain set up etc.
That's all I know of what he may done. But from pictures it shows he had the stock subframe still, which to me seems like he could have saved a ton more weight (maybe it was chopped under the bodywork).
We realyl should make a master list of stuff to reduce weight for the FZR.
Well im going to reduce weight everywhere i can, but like i said i will have a kawasaki 500 motor in mine, its 30 pounds lighter than a 600 motor out the gate. I will then go thru all areas that can be lightened up without geting $$$$$ crazy. I dont agree with people th at wont share information after they have spent time and money, whats the freaking big deal, i would share any information i learn about anything for free.

The only reference I could find was to the 660 which weighed in at under 300lbs. It says nothing of how that was done. Am I missing something here? I keep reading over it but can't see what you are getting at.
Ok so just got some more parts in to help out with my fuel injection process.
Got the tank trim pieces from Woodzee (Thanks for your help too). And got me a tank, with tank bracket, and fuel pump off ebay for a rediculously good price. Tank has a minor dent in it that I will fill in and paint over.

Gotta fill this gap, probably going to use some 1/8" aluminum sheet.
Bonus: The YZF600R fuel cap works on this tank as well. In fact they are supposedly the same from 99-2011 haven't confirmed just what fleabay led me to believe.

Thank you for the concern George I just edited it. However my plates are registered to a different address than where the bike currently is. However it would still be impossible to steal the bike unless the thief could lift it over his head as there are several cars blocking the way out at all times.
Now I have to make my own Y-pipe or I can buy a ready made y pipe and make it fit... any thoughts or suggestions? I want an O2 sensor bung on there to go with the EFI setup that is to come. I know they sell Y-pipes for the 06 + R6s with the O2 bungs on them already but best price I found was $150+ $25 shipping. Hoping to spend less than that considering I got the headers for $86 shipped.

at that price why did you not buy Delviks and done as a couple of us did, adding a bung to them is trivial compared to what you are attempting to do.

delkeviks ain't exactly cheap as what I did. And the Arrow headers look sexy to me. Not to mention the Delkevic are an oem replacement, not a performance type exhaust. I weighed my arrow headers at 4.5lbs... the y pipe will be another .5-1lb. The Oem R6 one I had on there is 7.5lbs. So its nice that it looks great and saves a couple lbs

That is because you are looking at an eBay Australia site. That place has crazy prices. Go onto Delkevic's web site (USA site) and see that it is much more reasonable. About $169 in SS.

ive been thinkin about getting the r6 tank how did it fit compared to the yzf600. im kinda torn between the two. i havent touched mine in months i been bulding a jeep from scratch and lost interest. just like me, one thing to the next.
