so for those going to paint your own wheels......do not use the duplicolor wheel clear coat over white
I bet the issue was more the heat lamp. Clear coat is pretty finiky about heat. For powder coat clear it has to bake at 100 degrees cooler than colors or it will turn yellowish. Since yours are yellowing I'm assuming that's it. You could probably sand the wheel with a wet sand 400 grit or something and see if you can some of the yellowing out.

Sorry though man. That sucks. I've had it happen so I feel for ya.

I looked at it out in the daylight. Doesnt seem that bad. It's staying that way. i can live with it. Tryng to get my tire mounted today so I can hopefully get everythng swapped out tomorrow.

I ran a clip style before and didn't have any issues, but I've heard a lot of horror stories at the Track Days about them.
:headscratch: Two words. Safety. Wire.

Two more words. Silicone. Goop.

The clip can't come off if it can't open up. If it DOES fall off (forgot to re-wire it after the last chain swap, eh, Skippy?), the sudden lack of a bright orange blob on the side of your chain should catch your attention (you DO check for your master link clip before you go out on the track, right?)

Either or both together, and - famous last words - "that ain't goin' no-wheres."

OK. So I compared the newly painted wheel to the front wheel. The rear wheel is cream colored. Im going to have to strip it all the way back down and start from scratch.

Damn! I hate that. Im sure it has something to do with the heat but if you wet sand it, might get the yellow out.

if your bike was gonna be on a show display somwhere then i guess i would say paint again , but since your about to swap it out and ride that sucker i wouldnt invest much time into it takin the fact itll get dirty aNYWAYS , unless its factory finish coat kinda hard to keep clean unless their polished then their hard to keep shiny lol get somthing else ready for the swap white is always hardest color to keep cuz when the color fades is creams or yellows anyways

Quick question for you guys. Since I removed the old valve stem from the wheel......are those stems motorcycle specific? Or can I just go to my local VatoZone and pick one up and install that?

PS......still contemplating whether I should repaint the wheel or not.

They are not specific but you will need something that screws onto the valve to pull it through.

I got the nerve to go ahead and do the swap today. Everything was pretty much straight forward. Only little thing I ran into was that I didn't have the YZF knuckle so I had to grind down a little bit of the dogbone pivot in the swingarm. About 1/16th on each side so it will match the FZR knuckle. Everything else went on exactly as it should have.

Now I am spacing out and grinding the rear sets. making sure that they clear the swingarm. I'll have to make a trip to the hardware store to buy some new longer bolts to accommodate the pile of washers behind the rear sets. But I will try to get the rear sets machined down at work.

Hopefully I will be all done tomorrow. I am going to use the wheel even though the color is off a bit. If the paint doesn't chip then its all good. if it does then I will paint it again.

Looks nice. Keep up the good work.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

Re: YZF swinger swap has begun...... ( NOW COMPLETED )

First off let me thank everyone here that helped me get this project done. It is now at its final stages. All I have to do is space out the rear sets and or mill them down. I will take them to work with me tomorrow and see if I can get one of the shop guys to do it for me real quick. Plus they have a ton of metric bolts and stuff there I can take instead of going to buy them.

OK....First picture is the front sprocket. When I bent back the stock washer the nut was loose!!!!!!! I lucke dout on that. The washer did its job and there definately needs ot be some type of safety mechanism there. I was able to get it tightened down on the new sprocket to about 70 FT Lbs. Then I gave give an extra little bit with my breaker bar to get it lined up so I can install the socket cap bolts on the side. I had to grind them down a little bit but they still have enough meat to install them correctly. Then I safety wired those. IT AINT GOING NOWHERES!!!!!

2nd picture is of the whole setup from the side. I was able to get the chain all the way forward to maximize the amount of travel in the stretch of the chain.

3rd picture is the alignment of the chain and sprockets. Looks pretty straight to me.

Lastly just a couple of notes.

1. I did have to grind down the bottom welde don nut for the shifter rear set. About half way so the chain wouldnt hit it.

2. You can use a 1&1/4 socket on the front sprocket nut

3. You can use a 7/8 socket on the swingarm pivot shaft nut

4. Found out you can't use the YZF Knuckle.... ( thanks pimpmyfzr )

5. Would be best if you can get all the parts from a wrecked bike. Instead of piecing tihngs together. Go big or stay home. This project costs about $500 to do if you dont have hookups with a bike junkyard or so.

Again. Thanks to all who chime din and helped. You guys are awesome. I will finish the rear set spacing out early this week and take her for a ride.

Thanks. I couldn't have done it without your guys help. All the research had already been done for me. All I had to do was follow through with the instructions.

To those that want to do this swap.... I figure out of a 1-10 scale of difficulty this is a 4.

No special tools required. All you really need is just a angle grinder and the chain tool. Everything else is just regular common garage tools. Take your time, measure twice and cut once.
