YZF swingarm/R6 wheel issues

Well, after 3+ years of "gathering parts" for my swingarm and wheel swap, I finally got it under way about 3 months ago. This has brought no end of headaches. I had almost everything I needed. Just had to get the wheel spacers made and get chain and sprockets. Everything else should have been ready to go. Well, after having the sleeves made, they were unfortunately the wrong dimensions and had to be trimmed down a bit. Then I found out the brake disc I bought for the R6 wheel is too big, so I have to get another one..

Last but not least, my current issue: with the sleeves inside the wheel, and the brake stay on, the assembly will *NOT* fit inside the swingarm. I'm 99% sure the spacers are now the exact dimensions they should be, as listed in ABS writeup Here. Unfortunately the two pictures I really need to see (spacers installed in the wheel) are no longer there, because they're hosted on photobucket instead of the site

Does anyone have pictures of the sleeves, etc installed in the wheel. I'm curious because there are small spacers inside either side of the wheel, which make contact with the bearings. I'm wondering if those pieces need to be shaved down a bit. I might need to get some pictures tonight (bike is at my bro-in-laws house) for this to make sense to people, but I wanted to see if anyone who has done this swap had run into any of these issues.

did you make the left side .440 and not .5 like it mentions but doesn't show in the drawing?

yea. when i first got the spacers back they were the dimensions of the *picture*, and one sleeve was actually longer than the other. i had to get the machinist at my dad's work to shave the left side down to .440 and the right side overall length down to 5.200.

They may be being used without the original wheel spacers. The ones that sit right against the bearing and have the rubber seal. Not sure. Although the new spacers don't need to go all the way through like Aaron designed them. You're adding extra weight. They need to be long enough to pass the bearings and that's it.

yea, i didn't think they would need to go all the way through. they're not touching each other in the middle, so that shouldn't be the issue. it looks to me that the right side spacer goes through the brake bracket then into the wheel. if i remove the stock spacer, the bracket seems like it would rub directly on the center of the wheel, which doesn't seem right to me. seems like the bracket should touch the spacer which touches the bearing, meaning nothing rubs on the wheel itself, and allowing free range of motion. i'll get some pics up tonight after i'm off work.

About how much overlap I get when attempting to put in the swingarm. Without the brake stay on the sleeve, everything fits like a glove. I must be missing something

Do these look correct? I can adjust them as necessary....

Once I know these are correct, I will also make the SketchUp file available for those that would like to have it.

those look correct darrin. only thing i see missing from the original drawings is the measurements for the angled ends.

ok, looks like i may have missed a step. according to abs writeup a couple posts down, you have to machine the sprocket hub the thickness of the sprocket (would be nice if the pics were still there, and if i had an exact measurement). guess i'll be doing some in depth measurements and buying my dads machinist another 6 pack

That won't do anything about getting the assembly to fit. That will only align the chain with the sprocket.

I think you might want to try not using the stock spacer on the sprocket side. See if it adds enough room to fit in. I was going to look at my r6 wheel and yzf swinger in the shop but never go to it. Had to clean the stripper tank. It's not as fun as it sounds..

blarg. just can't win at this. if this project ever gets completed, i'll take a few more pictures and add some more to abs writeup.

taking the left side spacer out still doesn't give enough room. unless i have the left side sleeve machined down a little in diameter to fit inside.

fyi, pretty sure i found the issue with the setup. i got the yzf swinger a few years ago knowing it had a "cosmetic" dent on one side. well, upon further investigation, it looks like that whole side of the swinger is tweaked inwards. soo...i'm probably going to pick up another swingarm, or try to fix this one. at this point, i kinda just want something that is 100% right so i can get it all back together
