89 gsxr750 rim?

I've been searching for posts or for a how-to on this rear rim for the fzr600. I have a 91 FZR600 and I heard that I can put the gsxr750 rim on it. Even though I've been googling like crazy and searching this forum, I can only come up with a few posts of people attempting it. No how-to's are documented. I'm not sure exactly which parts need to be changed, if spacers need to be made, if a bracket for the brake caliper needs to be made, or if it's even fully possible. Can someone point me in the right direction or clear up my concerns? I have a 160/60/17 that I want to put on it, and my back tire needs changing. This option will eventually be cheaper than trying to find a new 140 tire for an 18 inch rim every time I need tires. The cheapest I can find is $150 here for the stock FZR tire. 160/60/17 I can get for about $100.

Dont know about the Gixxer wheel, but if you convert over to a YZF600 swingarm you can use the YZF rear wheel which is a 160/60-17. Great thread on it here: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=563

I read through that link before and they are trying to figure out what bike the rim is off of. They initially talk about it being from an 89 gsxr750, but then later on they say it might be from a 96 - 99 bandit. Nothing seems definite and I've read through a bunch of the pages.

I just called a guy at a local shop. he has the gsxr750 rim/tire but the tire is a 180. According to the link from sweekster the 89 tire is a 160 and the 90 - 92 is a 180 and I think they are on the same rim but I don't know. I have a 160/60/17 tire, and I think I can have the guy at the shop put the tire on for me. The problem is that he wants $300 for the USED rim with sprocket and rotor..I'm better off going on ebay or finding one on craigslist, I have a wanted ad on craigslist right now, but no one has called. I might start looking for a bandit rim too.

Well you'll want to get the wheel dimensions then. If its a 4.5x17 then you can probably make it work. 5.0x17 or wider then you want to look into swing arm swaps. The 89 gsxr wheel and the bandit 600 wheel were very similar if I remember and both were 4.5x17-which you can run a 160 tire on.

hmm..so I found a rim from a suzuki sv650. It's a 17" and has a 4.5" width..the guy said the part number is j17mt4.5. Has anyone explored this wheel as a possibility?

I found this..it's interesting..a guy was able to fit an FZR rim on a SV650, but he later realized that the FZR is an 18 and the sv is a 17..The reverse option should be possible..I forgot to ask the guy on the phone what his tire size is on the sv650 rim

I know for a fact that the SV rim has been modified to fit the FZR. The older GSXR rims are HEAVY and you are better off avoiding them.

I'd go for the YZF600 swing arm and rim swap if I were looking for the easiest most straightforward mod. All you will have to do is space out your front sprocket.

I have a yzf600 rim, I sold the swingarm a while back, I was going to do the conversion, but I though you had to get a 636 front sprocket, 520 rear sprocket and a 520 chain? That's why I never did it.
