blue dot rear calipers
hi, i`m building a bike using 88 fzr swing arm, wheels and forks. i`ve switched the front calipers to the blue dots. i`m just wondering if there is an easy way to convert the back to blue dots?

Re: blue dot rear calipers
Nice bike! AFAIK the rear blue dots are R1 calipers and won't easily bolt onto the 88 arm. However, it looks like you're not stranger to your local machine shop, so it shouldn't be too much work to have the caliper hanger machined to fit the FZR arm.

Re: blue dot rear calipers
thanks guys,
I started this project last Jan, took the summer off and just started back on it.i hope to have it done by this jan.
i wasnt sure if there were any easy swops for the rear calipers like the front ones. i think i`ll just take the rear wheel off and take a trip to the wrekers and see what i can match up. i`ll repost when i figure something out in case anyone else wants to do it to.
here is a link to the build if anyone is interested.

From what you have been doing, going a little outside "the box", should not be too hard take a look at:-

About half way down is the GOTCHA section and my way of getting past a rear brake hanger problem
ALSO

with a description of the various "canniblized" parts used.
Trevor looked thro your Trip build Welcome truly to "the mad house" they are likely to offer you a SITE DIRECTORS job after seeing what you did with that .
This, I believe is my old "widow maker" that I took to the IoM way back when Kawa first hit the UK as astreet bike.

Man i thought George was a one off, you two related?. Geeze what you guys get up to, I never understood Geo's way of "thinking" for want of a better word but then he did all his stuff in country with no engineering background except oil fiels stuff. so i always figure it was born of necessity. What drives you to go outside the box?

Re: blue dot rear calipers
hey Nik,
ya, George has some pretty sweet bikes! ive always been more interested in stuff like that. i think its great when people take something and make it look different or do something it wasnt meant to do. i`m actually an electrician and learnd all my building skills from working on vintage scooters. this is my first bike build. here is a link of my 1969 lambretta scooter i turned into a drag racer ( with help from my brother inlaw) its doing 14`s at 85 mph.

Re: blue dot rear calipers
fitting the rear r1 caliper proved to be a pain. its meant to fit on the bottom and would take way to much to get it to work. just for fun i grabbed the front right caliper and held it up. it was so close to fiting on its own.
i machined 3mm off one and 6mm off the other surface, made a litle mounting tab and cross my fingers that it works! if anything, it looks good.

Re: blue dot rear calipers
Trevor,
I see like Y-G you make sure the air bleed is top most, unlike some OEM stuff I have seen where you need to unbolt the hydraulics to get the bled screw to where it is supposed to be.
Nice lateral thinking on the caliper mod I am sure Y-G when he sees it will be grinning ear to ear and nodding "I like the way that guy thinks "

Re: blue dot rear calipers
It's well done, and sure looks purty, but I'll wager it's gonna be a bastard to modulate. There's a reason modern bikes have weaker rear brakes than front ...
