Are you doing most of the work yourself or is a machine shop going to handle it?

I apologize, but I just don't know your qualifications or abilities. I would love to see a write-up on the R1 swingarm swap.

most of the work i may have somone else do. i know how to run alot of the machines but would need some supervision since i have'nt done much metal working since highschool. i think we are going to start this week. i am calling the guy tonight.

billy_awesome i know im getting there. i was dead set on the yzf600r rear end until i found this r1 stuff by accident looking for fairings on ebay. it turns out it solves alot of problems machining spacers and this and that since my 02 r6 stuff bolts right on since the swingarm is not semitrical on both sides. i figured id try it.

i cant build to much since this is not done yet and my fzr stem in not back from FZRYZFR6 in florida...which i have no way now of contacting him due to the archive going now. i dont know if ill ever get my parts back from him...hes had them going on 6 months now.

I'm thinking a GSXR750 motor in an FZR400 frame is going to necessitate allot of restructuring. Not to mention engineering. That's quite a jump in power for that frame. How big of an engine has ever been successfully shoe horned into that frame?

i am going over to the machine shop thursday night and get the R1 swingarm machined down. its going to fit pretty good.

i am still debating if its cost effectice to go fzr400 frame and a larger motor...i keep learning towards just a 600frame using my frame and motor and part the rest of the bike out. anyway ill have to pics of the R1 stuff and sprocket i am running tonight.

if i could pic up a junk frame i could make a roller and swap my good frame out of my bike. i am buy up tires today i think.

*edit* i just bought the tires. i try to go for sport touring tires, i seem to get about 8-10K miles out of a set...i dont race so i dont need them super soft tires for the street.

heres what i bought. http://www.tiresunlimited.com/images/co ... attack.jpg

ill have them in prob a week and then go get them mounted up and balanced on the rims so ill be ready to have a roller.

Some R1 swingarm dimensions and more issues with it if anyone if brave nuff to copy me.

shock is not in line with the fzr mount, its also shock mounts are different on the lower end.
width of swingarm that gets mounted into the frame is a hair under 10.50" its prob more like 10.45" with the dust caps on. thats all until thursday once i get true dimensions to machine off each side.

got some dimensions for this swap.

the fzr600 pivot bolt dia is .625". now the I.D. of the 04-06 R1 pivot bolt its .650" you can use the R1 pivot bolt as your sleeve if you cut it down to fit the lenght of the fzr swingarm. its a little larger then i like but if your really anal i would just weld both holes shut and drill them out to .635"-.638"...this is the same dia of the mounting hole in the fzr600 frame.

if you pack the sleeve with greese you should have no problem, remeber its just a sleeve inside a sleeve.

FZR600 swingarm is 19.75" center to center mounting holes with a 1" adjustment slot.

04-06 R1 swingarm is 22.75 center to center mounting holes with a 1" adjustment slot. you should cust 3" out of the swingarm and weld it back together up at the front of the arm.

more info tomorrow once the arm is cut down fit tonight. WOOT

You were talking about engines before and the fact that your keeping the FZR do to cost. With the 400 frame you should be saving weight anyway, so may I suggest 2 options...... Just drop your 600 engine into it or build a 660. It all depends on if you just want more power or reliability. And as you and everyone else has stated, the bore kits don't have the reliability and YZF engines just don't give enough power for what you spend.

Personally, I'm building a 660 for mine this coming winter.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....
