R6 swingarm on YZF600?

Post by shredex »

The YZF750 has the same style frame as the yzf600...but the 750 has an 99-02 R6/99-01 R1 swingarm...

I thought it would be cool to stick the 99-02 R6 swingarm I have lying around onto the yzf frame.

wanted to know if anyone has done this before and if there is alot that needs to be grinded off the frame like if I was doing it on the fzr...

So much for parting it out to pay for it...

and "keeping it stock"

lol...I dont know what Im doing...I really might be able to keep it as long as I keep working like I am now...but just not sure because I can just see it being another $$ pit...lol

just wanted to know if it would work.
keeping stock would cost money cause I would need new tank/fuel pump/left fairings/upper/lower/windscreen/taillight/both shifter and brake foot levers/...
so I have many choices
Keep both and fix up yzf and use one bike as a track bike.
or I can swap everything from my fzr onto the yzf frame....and sell the fzr as a whole bike just missing fuel pump and will be naked.
or I can just stick the yzf motor into my fzr frame but then I would need to do swingarm swap...
or tear the yzf motor apart and collect parts for 660 and then build 660 and put it into the fzr frame. but then Ill need spacer plate/programable cdi/new gaskets/some fz rods I think it was? and a some other little do dads....

I just really like this frame on this bike...looks slot more modern and sleak.
just not sure how the R1 tank would look on it because I think the frame slop on the yzf is steaper.

Why swap the swinger of the YZF? 89-95 FZR1k Rear wheel will fit. It's a 5.5x17. So will the mid 90's Gixxer 5.5x17 as well. Less work to get a 180 rear tire on it. BUT like I said in your other thread, see if it runs FIRST. If it does then see about titling it and getting the proper paper work in your name and then think about this other stuff. You can make up all kinds of "what ifs" all day long but if the bike don't run then you just have another pile of metal and plastic taking up space.

Just so you know, the YZF600 swingarm is only like 1/8" wider than the FZR swingarm. The YZF750/R1/R6 swingarm is about 1-1/4" wider than the FZR one.

The YZF 750 / 600 frames look the same, but the 750 is definitely bigger (wider). I've been wanting one for a long while.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

The YZF swingarm is 3/4" wider(3/8" per side) than the FZR.

I agree with Duane. the YZF guys swap the FZR1k wheel all the time and run up to a 190 on it(180 recommended). Switching to the R6 swingarm will only give you a braced swingarm, it wont add any real functionality that the 1000 wheel wont.

The reason I asked is because Im swaping everything over to my FZR for now, but if I can get the yzf frame titled in the future then I want to swap back but since the swingarm will be modified then I wont be able to...but Iv got a r6 swingarm I can swap over.

So the yzf swingarm is 3/4" bigger than the fzr one...ok...that mean you remove 3/8" from each side to fit the fzr frame
The R6 swingarm is 1-1/4" bigger than the fzr one...ok...that means that its only 1/2" bigger than the yzf one and that I would only have to grind 1/4 from each side...thats 1/4 less than you need to grind down on the yzf swingarm to fit the fzr...so to me...the R6 to yzf swap is easier than the yzf to fzr swap.

huh?
yea, yzf onto the fzr frame...and im putting r6 onto yzf frame.
both get upgraded....

yzf to fzr frame = 3/8" grind off each side of yzf swingarm
R6 to YZF frame = 1/4" grind off each side of R6 swingarm.
