Speed sensor for R1/R6 Gauge Cluster Conversion

Post by DonTZ125 »

I saw this awhile back, but keep forgetting toi post it here. A fellow converted his RZ350 to use an R1 gauge cluster to go with his R1 forks. About halfway down the page is a pic of his speed sensor arranged to pick up the sprocket teeth. Mighty be a whole lot easier than drilling and JB Weld-ing.

We had that listed here at one time. Only problem is that, rz has a whole different wiring harness than the FZR.

I would suspect that the reason it's suggested to put the speed sensor in the crank case is because the amount of teeth won't change. In the setup on that RZ, you change the front sprocket tooth amount you change the speed reading. I guess its fine if that doesn't happen though-and it a lot easier to mount as well.

Sweekster - if you change the sprocket on an R1, or an FZR that has an R1 gauge set installed with a gearbox speed sensor, your speed reading will change ...

You will need a speedo healer to correct it all.

Yup you can buy a speed healer or make your own from a PIC chip and few other bits I will see if I can haul out the article from the mag & other details

EDIT:-
September 2008 EPE Mag ( www.epemag.com )
can buy back issue or by download they have the PCB for sale as well, another company does pre-programmed PIC chips for the speed healer as well.
