Building hybrid. Whats should i sell, what should i save.

Post by gkotlin »

I have an FZR 600. Complete. I'm getting a FZR400. I want to put the 600 engine in the 400 for track use. What parts are different on the 600 that I can sell? Whats the same and I should save for spares? Anyone need parts I'm not going to need?

well, if there both two full bikes...
with the 600 motor, your gonna need the 600 wire harness/VR/CDI...pretty much the whole electrical...
not sure if the 400 coils work on the 600 motor

your gonna be left with a full fzr600 with no motor or electrical...
i say, if you can, grab another fzr600 motor and slap it into the frame and then you have two 600cc bikes for use!...
one for track, one for the road, or both for the track!

Strip the weight off the 600 and convert the rear wheel to cbr 6 spoke and just race that.
Find yourself great tyres and start racing.See how much you like it.

You may find you want bigger bike after first year anyway.

Build both bikes and have one for the track and one for the street.

I'm with mossy on this one... just race the 600 for now - otherwise you'll miss this year's events. If you're really serious and want to spend the cash, do a front end upgrade - something like USD forks.

However, I'm not entirely sold that you'll want to go bigger later on. I like the 600 class bikes, but it also depends on the track.

I would like something bigger for the street though.

As fasr as your initial question: Keep both bikes until the task is complete. The basics are as Shred pointed out: wire harness and all electronics...

Speaking as someone who races a 125 and rides a 250, this business of "I need a bigger bike!" when discussing a 600 is kinda funny... :dubious: screwy :-D

6'2" and 225lb in my shorts - a friend of mine once described the sight of me (sick, on meds, 255lb at the time) on the TZ as "a gorilla doing something rude to a rollerskate"

The problem is I'd need to find a motor, wiring harness, VR, CDI etc to make a full street bike. Not really interested in that. I'd like to have a super moto for the street.

As for whether I'll like it. I've been doing a wee bit of racing and a LOT of track days for 3 years. I'm an instructor on the track and do about 25-40 track days a year. :) So this is for the "me" time, when I'm not coaching. I have a 600 RR that I ride to coach on.

Then for the best. I must agree. We've come to the conclusion that real mine ride smaller bikes. My friend went 600cc - 1000cc - 650 cc twin - 250 2 stroke. The best part is he's got them all! So we have a choice of what to ride. He has the most fun on the 250.

So the little FZR would be to ride with him on his 250. Learning how to "really" ride a bike. I figure since I have the 600 engine, why not give the little bike a little boost of power :) I'm sure it needs it as I'm also quite a big guy. 240 lbs on the little FZR. It's going to want more power.

So.... Do the forks, and front wheel from the 600 work on the 400? I can't think of anything else that would be of use to save.

If you wanted to just find an engine with everything you need to get it running (wiring, computer.....) FZR items really are not that expensive - like you can fine an engine for $200. 400 frames are getting really hard to come by. Sit on it and start collecting the parts you need to build it. That way you can still ride the 600 you have for now.

But just so you know, the engine is a direct swap into the 400 frame. But the other items like the forks and rear wheel are just as crappy between the two bikes. Keep the 400 swingarm though if you have it. It is a lot less weight.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

I'm 6'3" and 235 - the lads at work all reckon the Fizzer looks like a mini moto under my backside, and half expect it to stay wedged in between my arse cheeks when I stand up!

This what your aiming at.Im tempted to buy this for a practice bike. Its not within the pre89 rulz that we have so dont know what use it is other than open track days but would be good way to keep my 1000 track milage down.
