'07 R1 tail on FZR600

Post by Travis »

Here is a pic of it. I'm fitting an '07 R1 tail on my FZR600. I'm waiting for the tail light to arrive and I still need an undertail.

Nice. Are you going to convert to the R1 exhaust as well? Looks like your modifing the stock FZR subframe to work as well. Keep us posted on the progress.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

The tail looks absolutely tiny on that bike. Hope the undertail adds more to it.

Much skinnier than the 99-02 tail. I like it!

alright... so I've got the tail, undertail and taillight here at my house. I'm waiting for the front and rear seats to get here. Once I have them I'll really get to work modding this thing. It probably wont be for a while though because i leave for Denmark on the 17th. As for side fairings, this is a streetfighter so none of those!! lol I problem I've already found is that the rear light stays constant, as in it wont get brighter when brake is applied. R1 light is LED. Anyone have a cure?

What are you going to do about the big giant hole in the tank cover where the seat used to go?

I cant comment on the glassing method, but I know when I went to my 06 R1 tail and YZF tank, the seat wont mate cleanly with the tank. The shape is not the same. I had to unstaple the cover and trim the seat pan and foam, then restaple. It might fit better with the fzr tank since its slimmer, IDK. But I probably had quite a few more issues than you will though since I used the subframe as well. I had clearance issues between the battery and tank and had some difficulty making a rear mount for the tank. Are you going to fab a mount for the rear seat? It will take some fabrication and reinforcement to make the seat functional, but not too much to just hold it on.

As for the taillight, you shouldnt need a resistor. Its built in to the light. The color scheme for the wiring is the same as FZR, you just need to splice the correct harness connector on and it should work. Mine required no modification other than the plug, but again, it was an 06.

Overall I think its looking nice and the lines all fit pretty well. It should look great with the seats and undertail on.
