Volkswagen to start making motorcycles

Car giant Volkswagen is getting on its bike to produce this: its first-ever motorcycle

The company is set to team up with Austrian motorbike manufacturer KTM to develop the two-wheeler. And our picture shows how the new machine is likely to look.

KTM’s first attempt at a road car, the track-biased X-Bow, was developed with help from VW’s engineers, and even makes use of the 2.0-litre turbo from the Audi TT. So tapping into KTM’s motorcycle know-how to build this bike is an ideal way to repay the favour!

The two-wheeler would pitch VW head-to-head with fellow German giant BMW, which is already established in the motorcycle industry.

But it’s not only the bike market that VW is looking to muscle in on: it sees potential in three wheels, too. Cast your mind back to the 2006 Los Angeles Motor Show, and you might recall the GX-3 concept. It now looks as though production of the firm’s wacky motorbike/car hybrid could be back on the agenda.

The vehicle stunned showgoers with a combination of space-age styling and top performance credentials, although bosses deemed the legal hurdles of selling the ‘trike’ as a motorcycle – and the damage that it could do to VW’s credibility as a car maker – too significant to give it the green light. However, they have now said that if the firm was to produce motorcycles as well as cars in the future, the GX-3 could justifiably make it to production.

And the three-wheeler could be just the vehicle driving enthusiasts of the future are looking for. As it has a lightweight chassis, a frugal 125bhp 1.6-litre engine would provide searing performance – and all this with the ground-hugging stance of a roadster and the manoeuvrability of a motorbike

Wow, no kidding. Take off the silly VW emblems and you'd have a hard time telling them apart.

Looks like it's just a rendering of what someone thinks it might look like. Either way...VW selling bikes is like Suzuki selling cars...

Ok let's pick this beyotch apart. Suzuki SV650 engine/radiator, if I'm not mistaken, exactly same gas tank as the MV Agusta Brutale 910 !!! I hope Suzuki and MV Agusta sue their pants off.

Last Volkswagen in our family was my grandmother's 1973 bug. My half-aunt has a beetle from around 2005. I wouldn't drive a VW if you gave it to me. A lot of guys love the VR6 Jettas. Sorry, doesn't appeal to me, it's Euro-rice. Sure a lot of them have been "tuned" fast, but really, it's just a little, uncomfortable car. You can put a jet engine in an old Ford Escort, it's still an Escort.

I saw a guy with a license plate the other day....... said ......... "VOLVONUT"
You just KNOW someone needs to be bitchslapped. People are yuppie fools. Does EVERYONE just fall for MARKETING these days? The baby boomers in our company (as much as 99% of other corporate America) totally fall for this shit 24-7. But us poor Gen-X, Y, Z bastards have to learn and use all these "new" "better" "improved" (but full of a million goddamn bugs) programs. <end rant>
:swear :Kick banghead

I know someone who has one and not one of their cars is powered by a suzuki engine. Example the Suzuki XL7 is also the last generation Saturn Vue and those (from what I remember) are powered by Honda engines. Their Grand Vitara is basically a rebadged Chevy Equinox. Companies do strange things for money. Nissan will be offering Chrysler's Hemi V8 engine in the Titan in 2010...BMW's (German) Mini (Supposedly English) is actually powered by a Peugot (French). Bikes are no different..Benelli's (which is owned by a Chinese company) last ode to the street fighter looks to be using Triumphs newest triple and we've seen that Bimota will take any engine they can stick their name on it. And back to Suzuki...why is their old 650 V Twin showing up in every chinese and korean bike being built now? I've probably gotten waaaaaaay :offtopic: but I feel better now. :D.
