That's correct - just storage. We seem to be fine on bandwidth. We're using a high of 13GB of 50GB of bandwidth available each month, so we're pretty safe.

Bandwidth is one of those things that usually never gets too out of hand since users rotate. Look at the Archives right now. I don't recognize but maybe 10% of the people posting. It happens. The storage is what can get ya since the old data remains as well as new member data which usually involves new people asking the same old questions. That's why our WIKI has been so important and I applaud your efforts with that.

We do have the ability to increase both our storage and bandwidth if we ever get to the point where we've done what ever possible to keep slim and trim, so I'm not that concerned. I just want us all to create good housekeeping habits now.

Darrin,
are you saying that ALL moderator matters from anyone go to a central mail box and that mailbox then notifies all of us mods that we have a new message to read (rather like our pm system is now ) ?

How will we know who dealt with the mail query?

There is a free helpdesk software that allows this and the the person responsible who solves the problem can delete / download the thread on conclusion, in the mean time it stays on the helpdesk server.and says who is dealing with it (IF ANYONE).

ONE way to save space & bandwidth is to have afar better search engine than we have , that way we and our user base can look for solutions that have been reached already & if ad etail is missing add it to the WIKI, / factual thread (trimmed down to factual posts only NO comment threads ) UNLESS they add to the knowledge contained.

I'd rather not use email boxes. They use both bandwidth and storage like the PMs do unless we forward them all out. I just wanted to see if the MODs wanted a central email account that would forward it to their own personal email account.

I really wouldn't worry too much about the PMs. As long as we keep them trimmed down, then we should be fine.

Not sure what we can do about the SEARCH ENGINE. I will look into PHPBB3 MODs. I'm sure there is something out there that is better. I agree that it is lacking.

One big thing is our main page. I need to get more information on there about the site, etc...

Instead of the Helpdesk software, we can use the FORUM for issues. We can create a Help Desk subforum that would be managed by the MODs.

Darrin,
The forwarded to personal boxes is a good solution precious little storage and not a lot of bandwidth

We have to get the general user to clean their own house fine but we need a trigger as I have on my mailboxes @ sltmine that at 80% they send out a warning about being "full"

Main page Hmm what were you thinking of adding last years stats is about all I like its cleanness, conciseness bold statement of what is available unlike the customfighter front page which is a cluttered nightmare to me.

a helpdesk forum makes sense BUT it must state clearly it is for NON-bike issues or some noob will be asking for help to pressure his tyres.

Again a decent search engine for the helpdesk WIKI / FAQ would work wonders and make answering a breeze for the MODS as well if the question is asked a lot but not actually dealt with by that individual Moderator.
