Daytona Bike week spring break 2011!

Hello Everyone! I thought that I would share some of my pictures from my spring break adventure last week. So my buddy (the one with the Harley Sportster) contacted me in February and asked me what I was doing for spring break and I had no plans established so we decided it needed to be something that involved motorcycles, sun and sand. So... when we realized that Bike Week was the same time as our spring break we realized it was destiny! So we made moves and starting planning the adventure. I started working on the fizzer and tore everything apart and repainted all the fairings to make sure it was looking good for the trip. I was a little worried about breaking down or something so I brought some tools... FIZZER was awesome. Didnt give me one problem till on the way back my exhaust hanger bolt snapped in VA and i ratchet strapped it back on. My buddies harley blew a rectifier in SC on the way down so we had to go to a harley dealer and get that swapped. The way down we did 300 miles the first day and than 750 the second straight into Daytona to beat the storm coming in from Louisiana. The way back up we split it up 350, 350, 300. Ok enough talking... here's the pictures.

Didnt feel comfortable leaving the bike outside so... i just pulled it right in!

Since we were trying to beat the storm we got into Daytona at 1am Sunday morning and we werent supposed to check in till Sunday afternoon. They had no rooms available and since it was bike week neither did anyone else... Sooooo we sat at Dennys for 6 hours while my buddy passed out on the bench and i watched our gear in fear it would all be stolen. Than when we went back to the hotel at like 6am in hopes that someone crazy checked out already of course there wasnt anyone who did so we had slept outside the hotel in the parking deck in the rain. At least we saw the sun rise. WELCOME TO DAYTONA!

You're a trooper. I can't make it to St Louis, which is about 100 miles away with out my arms and back hurting. I'm only 28. But 6'1" so I need to raise the bars a bit. Anyway I would love to do something like this.

I know there wasn't any pics but did you see any other FZR's?

Chris.

my friends were there and actually got pics of the same bike as you, the one seriously custom bike with the yellow rims. They only saw one other FZR but it had graphics and stock seat

Love the pics! The FZR is a wonderful and durable bike with only a few flaws, like the early voltage regulator design and a radiator that is too small. Sounds like you had a great time. You'll remember that for long time.

I'm a wimp too, Chris, but it's usually my arse that's killing me. I'm 41, so I have a right to complain. lol

Yea it was quite the trip for sure.. I saw that FZR as well but didnt get any pictures of it. I made sure to swap out the regulator before i left to avoid any problems. I put a new R6 one in and put an extra sheet of metal underneath to dissipate the heat. I was very surprised at how comfortable I was going to be on the FZR. The only thing that really hurt was my butt haha. It would go numb due to the lack of any type of padding on that stock seat. I would just make sure to stretch them out every time I stopped for gas and towards the end of the day I would have to stand up on the foot pegs while driving to stretch them out a little. Overall AWESOME trip and wouldnt change anything about (even being homeless haha).... besides the time there.. i wish i never left!

Sounds like a great trip. Nice photos. Now tell me about your tank bag as I am thinking of getting one and that one fits nicely.

yea i like the fit of this tank bag. It is the bigger motocentric bag that has is the tie on because you obviously cant get the magnetic since the tank cover is plastic. It fit really well. The only complaint i have is that the straps broke on the trip which is a shame because I really love the bag. It fits a lot of things and has a different sections for the map and mp3 player as well as has a water bladder. I had to get some needle and thread and reinforce the clips but I will be calling motocentric to try and get a new one.

:) So, some of you may recogniz the bike.. I've been dying to post these as matt was sending them to his FB account but i figured this would make a great thread. Matt did a great job of fixing up the Fizzer before the trip (she looks great). What a great trip, I'm really jealous that we didn't get to go.. There's always bikeweek in NH. :)
I'm also really happy to see the FZR get used.. Thanks for posting!

Sounds like fun.. I'm thinking marriott though.. There is a member on the board (Bmiller) that had pictures of a brake job he did while on a road trip in a Motel. :) I couldn't help but think of that when i saw your pics of Fb
