Don't let those 53 horses go to your head. You might not be able to control that much power. ha!

True this.

the 883 is horribly underpowered....incapable of making a pass from highway speeds, or while traveling uphill.

the good news is that for the price of a couple accessories, and three good work hours, it CAN be a 1200.....and make more hp than the factory 1200(better compression/squish with the 883 head than 1200 heads).

I've done about ten of the 883-1200 conversions. PM me for details.
RR,
Hmm so i was right, my step-brother has the 1200 version and I told him better buy the 883 and swap pots and get more oomph.

Silly boy said that at 1200 he would wipe the hiway with my tinchy little 600FZR boy did he get a suprise I let him have a 200 yard lead and still passed him , backed off as i was well over the local limit & silly boy thought that was all the FZR had and passed me so , notch it and gass it, down in the bubble. He did catch up but by then I was paying the cashier for Gas LoL.

I don't think the folks with the cash are looking for all out power. They are going more for a show piece with a few power upgrades to give it a little umph. Since this puppy has a warranty they don't want me tearing into the motor. If it was someone handing me the bike and saying go nuts, well that's another story. This build has a pretty specific budget though and they are already talking about changing a few of the things to keep the price down.

here's how harley did it back in '78:

I am not sure the warrantee applies. Here, if it's a donation, all warrantee coverage is null and void..

And your "....a few power upgrades to give it a little umph..." wipes it out for sure..
trust me, there's no "umph" to be had with an 883

Those are the pipes I wanted him to go with but they are 750 vs 450 for the V&H. It will get the clip-ons and gauge cluster relocation bracket like that bike though. I may do the ignition relocation as well.

I saw the price difference.. I like the bottom bike the more I look at it.. The rear fendor cut and the larger wheels filling the open space created by raising the ass end. This is gonna be a great build keep us posted.

Sorry I haven't posted on this thread in awhile. A lot has been going on.

Since I posted this thread, the project has escalated. There is now a videographer involved,as well as a photographer. The bike is heading up to the Harley Museum for a show, then over to House of Harley in Milwaukee for their first show of the season/Open House, then it's heading over to Brewers stadium to be on display for awhile. While there they are working on getting it on the jumbotron. Then, in August it finally goes to the charity auction in WI and then in Sept there is the final auction in IL. Seems I'll be getting a lot more press with this bike than I was initially planning on. It's cool, but with this also being the first Harley I've touched, I'm going to have to make sure I do it up proper.

Didn't get as far as I would have liked but I made a dent.

Got a bunch of parts taken off the bike.

Had a painter come by and do the charity logo on the back fender.

Started to bolt some things back on.

I had to coat the pipe black as it was chrome and pretty ugly looking.

Got the bracket for the exhaust on.
Image

Got the fuel pack installed
Image

Ordered the chrome exhaust instead of the black one (oops). Good thing I can powder coat! All better!

Starting on the bolt to replace the rear fender bolt.
Image

And the roughed out bolt.
Image

Drilled the center for some wires
Image

Got it threaded to a 1/4"x20.
Image

Test fit. Fits perfectly!
Image

And drilled the hole for the light. They know I'm replacing the bolt so it doesn't look so goofy(Harley just slaps a chrome philips bolt there and it's pretty visible and seems out of place) but they don't know I'm adding a light to it. When they told me there was going to be a logo painted on the back I thought I might be able to kill two birds. So the bolt will house a little LED to light the logo up. I think they'll like the idea.

I picked up some other parts and am still waiting on a few. Saturday should bring the new shocks and maybe some other little things finished up. I apparently have to save work for tuesday when the videographer shows up to take some video of me working. And I guess there is now a photographer involved as well. I just want to build the bike. I don't want people watching me.

nice work again man, cant wait to see it finished!

oh, and you need an assistant to yell at, then make up, yell at again, he should be lovable, but have character flaws. then you can make a proper tv show, make a bunch of money, sell out, become a hipster, and live the rest of your life doing cameos on sitcoms!
I did that.

Haha. We were talking about that. Everyone is telling me I need someone to yell at. However, I will never become a hipster. Ever! I hope I don't have to sell out at any point either. I'm a hippie. I don't need lots of money. :whistle

Making a custom cover that will go over it.

A few more shots. Didn't get a ton of stuff bolted up saturday like I had hoped.

Got the front end loosely put together. I think it does have a better look although comfort I believe will be suffering a bit. The tank is still raised about 3 inches right now. It will go back down.
