Forgive me for I have sinned...

Post by houseforsaken »

I traded my 97 FZR 600 for an 06 R1. She is amazing and beautiful.

Yeah, I know. I was just pokin' fun. Believe me, I'd love to have a newer bike. My only problem as that I have such a hard time reaching the damn ground on them! LOL! I actually sat on what I seem to recall was an '07 GSXR750 and I have to admit that, although it was high, it didn't feel too bad because of the lower center of gravity.

Enough about me though! That IS a sweet ride. As Apsolus said, be careful and spend some time getting use to it.

Don't make me remind everyone what 2 of the forum mods are now riding. Ha ha it's all good. As long as you keep riding I'm happy. Looking good.

I would love to have an R1. An R6 would also do, but I want to keep that quiet as Haunter may pin me for the reason his bike goes missing.

As if you have anywhere to go. I bought a GSXR, but I don't hang around those forums. This is where all the real work is done. The newer bikes don't have the same kind of people the older bikes do. The only "mods" they talk about in newer bike forums are adding swing arm spools and K&N filters - poor saps!

Thanks! I'll do my best to be careful! She is a beauty...took her out yesterday for the first time. I just picked her up this past saturday.
Rage, you're right...i'll probably still be lurking around on this site...everyone here has to be the best group I've interacted with thus far. You are right...all they talke about are stacks/spools/and lights, lol. Though...there's not much I'd like to do to her....I don't need her to be faster that's for sure :)
After my FZR...I wouldn't buy anything other than a Yamaha! :) It was a great deal that I couldn't pass up! I will miss the FZR though...I loved cornering on that thing.

This brings up a good question for me. Just generally what are the differences between the r6 and the r1? I've been on an 02 r6, but I didn't ride it any distance at all.

I think the R1's extra 400cc's is the main difference and then everything has to be modified to accompany the extra power/weight.

This is one great reason why the GSXR750 is so popular. It uses the same frame and most of the same components as the 600 - keeping the bike nimble.

Actually I got a great deal! $1800 trade in and 5k cash. Would've been more in trade...but the fairing was broken :(. I will have to take a look at the R1 thread...I went to the R1-Forum...not too much info on there.

McFizzer, I'll be getting rid of that rear fender ASAP, lol. I wish I tell you more Kililka2 about the R1..but other than it being fuel injected and 998 cc's, I don't know much. I know it feels great and looks amazing!!!

So pretty much it's like the difference between the Fzr600 and Fzr1k. Is the R1 alum frame?

Yes alluminum deltabox frame... I think in 06 they were using a 16 valve engine, ti valve. Just a very realible bike. The weight between that and the R6 isn't incredibly different. I love hearing people talking about the weight differences...then I look at my 1k and go yeah... its REAL heavy LOL in reality I would tops make the difference in weight 20-30lbs. The newer bikes are so well balanced, the cassette style transmission helps thin the bike out alot and allow for a better of COG too. you got a pretty good deal there with 1800 for the 600.. At my shop we gave a kid a 2000 trade in on his yzf 600 and that had cracks in the fairings and we had to replace the clutch... AND we marked it at 2500 for it... hardly any profit..

Anyway great deal ya got there. Enjoy... the R1 forum from pokin around looked like it had a lot of info but I really didn't read too much into it... If I were you I'd go to your yammie dealer and see if ya can pick up a service manual... No other great way to learn a bike then to read how to take it the hell apart an put it back together :)
