1989 FZR600 CAT C

Post by chris-seed »

1989 Yamaha FZR600.

39,076 miles

“F” Reg.

£375.00

Location: Stockport, Cheshire, UK

Category C write-off. I crashed into a car (not my fault) on the 1st of December 2014. The bike was deemed as a CAT C write-off by the insurers. So I’m selling the bike as a project/track bike/for parts.

The crash caused the following obvious damage to the bike:
- Crack in the starter casing. This was caused when I dropped the bike on the right hand side. The crack causes oil to leak out of the case when the engine Is running.
- Front fender. Cracked and chipped. Needs replacing.
- Exhaust end can is scratched.
- Fairing scratched.

I have no idea whether anything else is damaged, as the bike went into the front of a car at low speed (15mph or so). So it would be worth getting the bike checked over for more serious damage.

Bike Spec:
- Recently polished and balanced carbs. And valves adjusted. The bike pulled very well after this work. All work done by a Yamaha specialist.
- Pirelli Sport Demon tyres with loads of grip left. They were new when I bought the bike and I’ve only put around 1k miles on them.
- Motad full exhaust system. Sounds very nice.
- Gearbox is smooth as can be for a 1989 bike.

I bought the back in Summer 2014 and have done the following work on it:
- New battery.
- Pro Grips and new bar end weights.
- New Sunstar front sprocket (14 tooth)
- New Voltage regulator
- New front screen.
- EBC Sintered brake pads on the front.

The bike needs some work and would benefit from a bit of restoration work. I intended on doing this myself but no longer have the time to do it.

I am willing to part exchange. I am looking for another supersport 600cc bike, preferably an R6 but I’m open to offers. I just need something that is nice to ride and will cope with my 60mile per day motorway commute to work.

Let me know if you want to see any more pictures of the bike.
