Does any one know if they have a fuel cap with built in gas gauge. I know they have one for H.D. and shadows but do they have one for the fzr?

CB,
nothing is impossible if you do not mind the work. I have bikes which had "Jewel Tweeker" gas caps and cut those off to put flush mounts.

The thing with the FZR is that the " tank " is not it is just a cover the true tank lays underneath with a longish neck that mates to the cover.
Some guys on here have :-
used tanks with fuel monitoring built on
OR
Modified the tank to take a fuel monitor system
The former has led to modifications to the air box (been problematic ) replacement air boxes to match the tank & required outer cover (false tank) replacement and the seat sculptured to the new tank cover.
To my mind that is a lot of faffing but different strokes etc.
DONTZ will probably be able to advise you on sensor adding & wiring .

i was thinking i might be able to find a way to mount a float system inside the tank and just the sensor to the gauge pod. but that would require cutting part of the tank and finding a way to seal it back up. so idk. but i do know i am tired of not realizing that i went 180 miles and running out of gas after just passing a gas station.

Adding a YZF600 sensor and a dash light probably wouldn't be that hard (assuming the sensor FITS ... ), but you do realise your bike has a main / reserve system in the fuel lines, right? If you drive around all day on reserve from full (you ain't getting 180 miles out of just the reserve portion!), you're defeating the aspect of your bike that's supposed to prevent you from running dry.
Like my wife says to our 5yo - "Something stupid, no sympathy!"

If you drive around on reserve you are accessing the normal tank + reserve, so it is possible to go from full to flat empty after 180 miles... if you don't know how to use the fuel selector valve, and don't pay attention to your trip odometer.
If this is a feature you must have, it may be possible to harvest the float sensor from a newer bike and mount it inside your tank, but like you said that would require cutting and resealing. I don't think there is a simple (i.e. no fabrication) gas cap way to get what you're looking for.

Hi,
As I seem to recall saying this earlier somewhere else on the Forum, modifying gas tanks and gas welding them closed and leak proof is not hard. The choice of sensor is probably the hardest thing but I would think the YZF is probably suitable since the YZF tank is similar to the FZR in size.
Cutting the FZR tank will distort the surface metal if you decide to do a "bolt on" thus a strengthening flat flange (with threads) will needs to be added to the hole in the FZR tank. then it is a case of bolting a gasket & and sender unit from the donor bike.
The alternative is to just weld the donor bikes sender unit into a smaller hole in the FZR tank.

CB,
you could always ask someone like ModKing or ThatKid to do the job for you during the winter closed season, I am sure that TK has spare tanks (seems he has most 2 of everything LoL) he could mod for you and say part Ex on your tank (my idea not his ).
Mod King makes alloy tanks so....................
