yzf tank swap and dirt bike bars

Post by evand »

well im a tall kid (6,4 or so) and the fizzer clip ons are way to low for me, so im going with a set of dirt bike bars, protapers to be exact. i have the mounts already, what else am i going to need? will the throttle and clutch cable work? brake line? of not what do i need to get to make it work. also what are you guys runing for thottle on DB bars? will a regular dirt bike set up work and run a button for the starter?

and im also looking at the yzf tank swap, what has to be done other then pod filters, and what do i have to run for a seat?

thanks guys :shocker

You can use your existing seat or go with the R6 seat and it will line up perfectly. I have done the swap on the tank and tail with seats. Pods can be used or you will have to cut up your air box for the tank to work.

When I did the yzf tank swap on mine, I used an R6 seat but it doesn't fit well with my airtech fzr-r1 tail. The R6 seat is almost twice as wide as the stock fzr seat. I read somewhere that the front mounting tab from a fzr1000 works well for the yzf tank aswell. But I just bend, cut, and redrilled the stock yzf front bracket.

If you do what I did, you will need a longer clutch cable, re-route your throttle cables and electrical wires..

This is an excerpt from PM from a guy called SPYDER on the Archives. Last year I was considering doing what you did, but never did because I wanted to keep my fairings as is, and I'm not as tall as you and didn't plan on stunting. He used TAG bars with a HIGH CR bend. I have ProTapers on my YZ250F, LOVE 'EM.

Hopefully you got an LSL kit or something, or did a really good job drilling / tapping the triple clamp. It can be weaker than an LSL kit, but the kit will usually run over $400 as it comes with SS Spiegler brake lines, at least it used to, not sure about now.
Post up pictures of whatever you do.

I'm running Renthal bars and a 2" custom riser. Throttle cables were the perfect length. You don't need anything else for the swap. All the stock fizz stuff will fit.
