what shock is the right shock for me?

i am in a bit of a pickle. ok here goes, i am in the process, a very lengthy process, of installing a 1990 fzr 1000 complete rear end on my 1988 model fzr 1000. it has been a pretty easy time so far. i only had to machine a spacer to re use the small pivot bolt. anyway the shock cant clear the frame until i move the hose to the remote resevior out of the way, which means i have to break that line, which also means all the nitrogen will leak out. so i figured why not just get the thing rebuilt while im at it. so i took it to the speed shop and im told it cant be rebuilt and there is a problem with the valve you would normally refill the fluid, so i cant recharge it either, NICE. banghead but but but, he has a friend that will sell me either a stock factory yzf 1000 shock for 200 bucks, or the kicker, a FOX shock for 400 bucks. what say you guys? im not extremely serious about dragging a knee with this bike or anything, in fact its becouse of trying i wrecked it in the first place. wish i could show you guys pics but lets just say they are both in excellent condition.

just curious, what is the length of the shock from hole to hole? i've got a list of some shocks and lengths with their spring rates saved somewhere, might be able to find one that will fit as an alternative?

awesome help guys. i think me and cad600 are gonna deal. he has a fox shock and a rebuild he is gonna throw in for a real nice price. you guys are great thanks for your help! only things left are to take some more measurements and that will tell me if his shock will work for me or not. i will update soon :headbang:
