FZR600 Electrical Fried!!? HELP

Post by razorray1206 »

I have a 92 fzr 600 and went to jump start it with the cables because my battery was dead. My brother tried to help me and accidently touched the cables to opposites. Neg to Pos! Medium Spark and now nothing. Wont turn over or no lights. Has a smell off burned to it. I charged the battery over night and still nothing. I am thinking as I have checked the fuses, now going too the plugs, them the VR and then to the CDI (hopefully not!!) any ways to test the cdi or any advice?

Thanks!!! :duh:

Did you check the main fuse under the left side tail fairing? If that's good I would bet money that you fried the VR. Hopefully that's all that went bad since the TCI units cost a pretty penny.

There is a flow chart. But it really only helps you if the bike will run. Since you have a 92 I would source here or ebay for an r6 VR. If you still have the candy bar shaped pre95 VR. It's an upgrade I would do anyway and then you can eliminate one more thing.

Chris.

Here is the link if you want to see it.

^^What he said. I blew my VR last summer and upgraded to the R6 unit and haven't had any issues since.
