Gear Head section

hi,
In recent months i have had members writing to me complaining about the "Gear Head & Guru's" section of the forum.
The Issue has been that they do not like the fact that I lock the topic in question on it's initial posting, they feel that the members should be free to comment.
The contents of this section is not for talking about it is just a statement of some fact that has been found that would be of use to serious tinkerers, bike techs & designers. The fact it is then locked preserves it in concise form making the section easy to search.
I use the analogy of your favourite stack of magazines & some one mention something and you dash of to face the heap in no particular order to find 5 line of so you are looking for in amongst the Hottie opics and adverts the sweet heart puff pieces of journalistic nonsense.
I used to just razor the intersting pages out and put them in plastic pockets and into a ring binder.(at present there are 22 FULL binders on the shelf above my head and even tho there is an attempt of an index in each it can take me a hour or so to find what I want. Life is too darn short!!
Computers are so much faster BUT our search engine alas is none too bright if you type in widest tyre it will Bork too many to list or if you simple add a word like rim it will com back zero found. When you do get an answer you get 4-5 pages of random posts with the words in.so you wade thro those 4-5 pages and find nothing but chatter.
You then have to backtrace each header and read thro any thing up to 10 pages on popular stuff to find the one fact or URL that you need.
GH & Guru's section stops all that "verboseness" the header gives you (I hope) clue as to content and the search engine when pointed to only that section make short work of finding what is required.
IF you feel that anything in there is worthy of discussion or you have a question about the content you are ALL free to post in General /Open forums.
I would also ask if you have had to wade thro too much on some thing you are doing, to write (add pictures or you will not done hearing about it) a clear and concise HOW TO:- as there have been not too many added this last year !!
and it can be added to the WIKI
