Does anyone have any information about this red/black bike with "Rapier" on the side of it? It looks like a stout bike and reminds me of the red AKira bike. Would love to know what he did to make the back end look the way it does.

this bike i presume
That is an FZR1000 tail, it is a different frame and sits like that naturally on the frame. He probably made custom brackets for it.

That's just a modded or custom subframe. That's also an 89-90 1k frame but it's got 91+ body work

It appears that the subframe has been cut because it doesnt have anything goinbg under the seat or passed the seat.

Subframe on the 1k is bolt on unlike the FZR600. And....

Looks to be a partly chromed frame blacked at the lower end to accent the chrome spar, achrome plate set to hold tank/seat front skeltised sub frame with undertail tidy. Neat job but not major re-working
Funny the mention of an AKAI bike saw one at the Ace

And a poor job at that. Look at how low the front of the rear fairing goes below the seat. Needs a different seat and tail.

That's actually polished (1k frame is alloy).
Here you can see frame itself isn't modded other than being polished. The forks are from a 91-93 FZR1k as well
Stock 89-90 FZR1k
I want to speculate that he wanted the street fighter style tail with more subtlety...

Stock looks better to me more

Sweek I am SO glad we have you around or I would learn very little about FZR outside the 600's model.
Did the FZ ever come with an alloy frame ? I was told I was talking gibberish when I said yes (I actually had one with "polished " frame (could have been chrome) for 3-4 days in Trinidad but knew not where it came from other than straight from Yamaha in a crate so it could have been a "special" show model or something )

I want to say the FZ700 and FZ750 were steel but I don't know for sure.

From what I have seen, their frames were steel. I certainly wouldn't have trusted an aluminum frame that small. Not sure I would have put that much faith in a steel frame that small either...
