Hi,
well back in the "rodent run" too old to "rat race" LoL
I was looking at my spare headlight (single type) and saw there are 4 clips that hold the glass to the plastic body. Took them off expecting the glass to be movable. Nada no movement did Yamaha get frisky with some kinda bonding with plastic to glass?

Re: FZR headlamp dis-assembly
I dismantled mine it's the German version and was dazzling on coming traffic, I cut the deflector on one side and blocked it on the other.
It's not an easy job removing the glass, after removing the clips. The glass is bonded to the lamp assembly with what looked like car windscreen sealer, or roof guttering mastic. I ended up heating a stanley knife blade, then i cut the plastic. Not really easy to explain without pics, I'll take some photo's later.

Putting the headlight assembly in the oven at about 250 degrees for 3-5 minutes should soften the sealant enough for the lens to be removed from the body.

Re: FZR headlamp dis-assembly
You mean 250 degrees F? that would soften the sealant. However have you ever used windscreen sealer? it is very difficult to remove. I only discovered how the glass was bonded after i opened it.sweekster wrote:Putting the headlight assembly in the oven at about 250 degrees for 3-5 minutes should soften the sealant enough for the lens to be removed from the body.
The joint is tongue and groove, I.E. the plastic has the groove where the sealant is applied. The glass has the tongue @ that temperature the sealant will drip into the lamp sticking to the silver reflector. If you get in on your skin, just grit your teeth don't try to rub it off that will only make thing worse. How do I know this?
I have spent many many hours laying under cars gas & mig welding, the underseal was always removed, but some would always drip and burn like hell if it got on your skin. I have scars to prove it

Re: FZR headlamp dis-assembly
Yes, I was speaking in Fahrenheit. I don't think it's windscreen sealant but it's probably not much different than what is used on cars to bond light assemblies together. 250F at that short of time in a standard oven isn't enough to melt it into a dripping liquid. Been done many times over. Refer to this thread viewtopic.php?f=66&t=6823#p65785

Re: FZR headlamp dis-assembly
Trust me its windscreen sealant on the FZR 5-7 mins may be ok.
Edit
Do you or anyone else have any safety precautions as to handling anything @ that temperature? If so please inform! putting anything in a oven @ that temperature SHOULD have safety instructions provided!!!!
I wouldn't put any of my precious FZR parts in any oven. That's how I am.
