First lets set the scene. I was leaving Vacation Bible School Wednesday night about 9:30 and there are 2 roads I can take back home. Back country road or interstate. The interstate adds 10 min to the drive and it's under construction. So I decided to just take the country road against my better judgement. So the little lady is behind me and I'm taking my time being carefull. Doing 45-50. And from the left comes a racoon. Right after a right hander. I hit the brakes hard enough but without locking them up. Straighten the bike right as he decided if he is going to jink or juke. I've swerved as far right as I can and he jinks. I ran over him at about the neck area. I probably could have swerved more to miss him but I could just see this happening.. Swerve and go off the road and girlfriend runs over me. Or swerve and hit the racoon and fall off the bike and the girlfriend hits me.

This is how it pans out. Take yourself back to the old cartoon days. I hit the racoon I look back real quick, he gets up and literally checks himself out, looks at me, goes to run.... and the girlfried decapitates him right there on the spot with the bumper of her grand am. :hyprocrite She had locked the brakes up behind me, but the abs had prevented her from locking them for long.

We stop to check the bike and by then she is crying from killing the racoon, and what could have happened if she had hit me.

2nd story. I hit 10000 miles later that night.

Chris.

I learned a long time ago, if you are going to hit an animal under 15lbs, you might as well go ahead and run over it. Usually the maneuvers to avoid it are what cause an accident. Ive hit some big ass pavement bumps in the road and they hit harder than most small animals out there. Ive hit squirrels(i aim for squirrels) and skunks(lots in my hood) and its like hitting a speed bump. You hit em going fast enough and the suspension dampening does all the work so long as youre prepared for the rebound

Yeah I've started a check list for things I need to do. Valve clearances were on there. And time for a new chain and sprocket set.

This is always the correct choice. ;)
