In relation to firing order.

Who agrees with this?

The orange wire goes to cylinder #1 and the gray wire goes to Cylinder #2

...but the orange wire also "goes" to cylinder 4 and the gray wire also "goes" to cylinder 3.

The way it works is that one wire controls a primary side of the coil, which has a secondary side that is shared by two cylinders.

As it relates to the coils and the TCI unit, the FZR only sends off two spark signals per engine revolution. So to the tci unit the firing order looks like this:

1&4 - 2&3

while the engine actually operates like this:

1-2-4-3

I knew what it means, but that statement is unclear. Anyone who doesn't understand how coils work nor "waste spark" will think "oh the Orange wire connects directly to spark plug #1" and have no idea it also "controls" when #4" fires.

The correct term should be. The Orange wire controls when cylinders #1 and #4 fire, the Grey wire controls when cylinders #2 and #3 fire. Cylinders #1 and #4 fire at the exact same time every 360 degrees of crankshaft rotation, as do cylinders #2 and #3, which is known as "Waste Spark". A 4 stroke engine only requires each cylinder to fire every 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation.

The motivation was hoping a novice would answer "Yes", and give an inaccurate explanation. Or someone like you olie who does understand would answer correctly. I'm also thinking of ways to help novices understand, and maybe write some pages up. Hence this thread, and the vague question.

The only fault i can pick with your excellent reply is the answer should be "No" imo, and the use of the word "goes". the only places the Orange and Grey wires go to are the coil Low Tension outputs, and the TCI.

I mean easy to understand, step by step no technical bull shit (how this works how that works) FZR600 specific. Ignition system fault finding.

Rather than oh i have no spark. "what should i check" threads. You give advice, which obviously is ignored.
