i was wondering what you guys though about with all the yzf engine swaps and not using the 2 threaded holes on the side of the cylinders does anyone think frame sliders or a crash cage could be attached there so you dont have to beef up the frame. or do you think it would crack them i guess it was to mount the engine but it does put stress in a different direction you can see them in these pics.

The woman ride with once in a while has a Triumph 955i with frame sliders bolted directly into a cast in lug on her cylinder head...they're pretty sturdy...they hang the engine from them.
At the very least, I think it would be a good suplementary mount point for sliders....maybe make a 'bridge' piece that would go from one of the cylinder head holes to the frame-spread the load a bit.

I would be sure to WRAP around the casing anything mounted there so there are NO edges to dig in and bust the engine casing. Be a pigs ear to weld back any missing chunks in that area of the block.
Beefing up the frame and spreading the load & again no jutty out bits to dig in the road as the bike tries to go further and start tearing metal

Haro,
There are a couple of designs for "protector" on the list that are almost there. As far as i have seen no one has yet made a set that flows from the front to the back with no sharp bits to dig in.
Crashes usually start with forward motion ( yeh realy :- ) the only reason the bike will alter course once down is that a peg / handle bar / brake lever / shift lever sticks into the surface of the ground and the mass of the bike tries to break free fails and starts to pivot until the bit dug in is wrenched / broken free.
Engine cages etc should therefor be designed with no snag points of their own it is bad enough with bars & their levers as it is, you will notice that all Moto GP bikes either have fold away levers or that the ends that would dig in are deliberately weakened so they snap off ASAP and allow the mass of the bike to slide away until it eventually runs out of kinetic energy.
