What is registration?? Like roadtax or something? Anyway that is a lot of money,here in spain we pay about 100€ a year for a bike in roadtax. Some cars are a bit cheeper and some more expensive. My old BMW 320 is about 90€ a year in roadtax. I am tired of paying for stuff,someone surgest something please....

Holy smokes! IIRC, I paid $17 for state registration this year.

Mate yer should have kept schtum about the sponsership, they think all bikers are like you rich with sponser money :-}

In the past bikers paid very little in road fund money, but now the Govt realises that only the wealthy have bikes as second or third vehicles, not the poor who could not afford a car.

To get us inline with europe and the "carbon footprint" boggeyman they are gettin us to scrap our old cars (even giving hefty " bribes " to do it), for us to buy new cars with duel tech systems and charging absolute minimal road fund tax for the new stuff.
So now a bike pays more tax than the new cages. DAFT.

If I understand right, Australia's "accident levy" is the same as America's private party liability insurance, only you have to pay it up front when you pay your road tax (tag and registration).

If you do the currency exchange, Mossy's $850 AUS comes to $774.78 US.
It jumped from $329 AUS ($299.88 US) to $850 AUS ($774.78 US), an increase of 158.35%.

And IIRC I conly paid about $25-30 for my Tag (registration or road tax). However, you do have to remember that most US States (like Alabama) require at least liability coverage insurance (covers the other driver's damages if you hit them) which if I remember for my FZR600 runs around $360 a year.

Let's say $390 US/year to pay tag (road taxes) and insurance on the bike (approx $427.87 AUS)(exchange rate of $1 US to $1.0970927 AUS according to Google)

Granted, in Mossy's case we're talking a larger bike (over 600cc) versus an older 600cc machine, and he's still having to pay alot, but it's not quite as simple of a comparison as $28 versus $850.

Mossy, I sympathize with you. I can't imagine if my $390 US went up to $1,007.57 US (arguably half of what my bike is worth). I'd probably throw away the cages, keep just the Fizzer, and figure out how to mount a sidecar for those occasional trips to the grocery store.

You realise that we also have insurance against vehicle damage.This is the government tax for hospital bills.We also pay acc in our income and they have just lifted that as well about $350 per year for average wage earner so times two for us seeing as we both earn.Levy in car went up two to $300.

acc made a loss last year of 4.8 bill and we are a country of 4mill.
I wanna know where the money went.They are claiming motorcyclists are 16 times more likely to get injury blaaa blaaaa tosers

going to be mass protest rides.
This was delivered yesterday and Kiwi biker thread hit 10thou hits in the first two hrs alone.

Good! I'm glad you folks are gonna organise against it. You should make placards for your bikes stating their fuel efficiency.

(and they prolly don't mention-or track- how many of those motorcycle injuries are due to careless car drivers!)

yeh what sux is when you enter acc website and search payouts they dont have a figure for unregistered off road bikes and we think they have lumped them in with ours inflating figures.There is 3 mx bikes in new Zealand for every road bike but these have no plates and rego therefore dont contribute to acc levy.
