would any one be interested in Under wear

Post by yamaha_george »

Calm down girls, I'm talking about what you all wear under your leathers in HOT weather conditions.

I went out recently in a T shirt & cotton long johns under my riding kit only, as the weather was likely to be in the 80's.

When I reached my destination I had to have a shower immediately and turn my riding kit inside out to sun dry. The kit was almost running with sweat like a sauna and, despite anti-persperant and bathing before leaving for the trip, did not smell too nice.

Back in the west indies we rode in MX armour thro the jungle paths etc so we never encountered this problem.

Now I know there are umpteen brands of "base layer" clothing for bikers but this seems geared to cold weather rather than hot.

What do you guys in Florida arizona colerado & california use under your leathers?

Geez, George.

I think you are going to need to investigate wearing fishnets......they'll make you feel pretty ;-)

But, seriously..something like:
http://underwear.wickers.com/moistue-wi ... 189ZXsZX66

is probably in order here. I wear them (or similar) under my leathers-poly/silk "performance base layer"- and also for skiing. They're very thin and work very well when the hot/cool is cyclic

The cotton longjohns get wet and stay wet...the above will let the sweat out and keep your skin dry.

But, leathers are hot-there's no getting around that without getting extremely perforated leather-and at that point you may want to think textile riding gear.

something with moisture wicking is the bottom line, I wear one of these shirts ( http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... d=11034617 ) a lot of the time. I'm not a big Walmart fan but they're cheap and actually work well , one of the few things I've gotten from them I didn't destroy . I go with the compression style because it comforms, when I tried just a regular wicking t shirt I'd sweat in area the shirt wasn't in contact with and when I'd stand up it'd make spots.

I'll say it again...

Merino or bamboo. Both wick, both are naturally antimicrobial, both are environmentally friendly and aren't made from oil like poly, neither absorb odors so you don't stink and you don't have to wash them after every wearing like poly, both are natural fabrics and therefore, breathe through the entire fabric. Poly will only breathe through the weave in the fabric. Merino or bamboo will breathe through the weave and the yarn itself. Different weights are available for hot or cold weather.

You will pay more but they will last longer and offer greater versatility.

TK,
If I had seen that the first time you would not have to repeat it ! how about you put alink to a site that sells these items and add it as a one off in the GearHead & Guru's section . That way we can do a seach and find the info (which I had done before I posted and got NADA.)
Thank you for the info I will get on it and see if there is a UK stockist.

Great thread guys. I've actually been pondering this very thing. When my wife, daughter, and I were at Willow Springs in July it was about 113F (with a track temp close to 130F IIRC!)! So... Naturally, I started thinking about what I was going to wear under the suit 'cause it would be nice to not have it smelling like a locker room after only a couple races!

The other bonus of merino and bamboo that I forgot to mention over poly. If it gets through your leathers, both the natural fabrics are fire resistant. Merino will actually extinguish itself. Poly will melt to your skin and create one evil scar. That alone should be a reason to stay way from poly.

As far as links George. Do a search for Icebreaker or Smartwool. Both should be readily available at shops in the UK. For summer riding the 140g and 190g tees are awesome. 200g they do a tee and a longsleeve. 260g is for cooler temps and 320g is for cold. I'd never put 320 under something though. It's for an outer layer

I can get bamboo shirts at wholesale if anyone would be interested. Would prefer to do a decent order of about 25-30 shirts. They'd be about $25 shipped in the US, slightly more for those overseas although a priority small box is about 13 bucks. So overseas would be about ~32. If there is enough interest I'll put an order in. If not, no worries. Just thought I'd throw it out there. There are about 10-12 colors to choose from. You can see them at http://www.onnotextiles.com/colors

I'm going climbing so I won't be back to answer any questions till sunday.

TK ,
Man you were not joking about paying a little more 50UKP for a tee shirt upto 99UKP for another style of T shirt boxer shorts for 27 UKP for the icebreaker tag Jeezz my wife thinks I pay too much for my Sloggis @ 15UKP a pair

I will stick with the Bamboo at least there they mention good in hot climes where as the icebreaker harps on about snow boarding & skiing.

Damn TK<
I just got mine from http://www.bambooclothing.co.uk must say they are great to wear. Have not tried them in "anger" yet.

I have taken the liberty of merging your original post above into your post on the "under wear " topic as well as I feel this "base layer " info is important but may not "set the world alight" at the moment.
If anyone else wants in then add me for a Tee shirt (I bought along sleeve job as that is probably more useful to me at this moment in time ) size what ever fits a 42" chest with out feeling like a coat of paint ie bigger is better than skin tight because of my scars.

On behalf of all the rest of the readers THANK YOU as this offer is a lot of running around for you.

I do have one suggestion that the next set of FZRONLINE Tee shirts are these Bamboo ones as they are super comfy and we (the riding masses) wear them whilst riding so they will serve TWO purposes .

The saying is "many a true word said in jest".
your a sick puppy razor

We have a sports based clothing called second skin which moderates temperature .Most the racers use it for winter series cause it keeps you warm but doesn't let you overheat.Endurance guys use it.Its a BIT like light weight wet suit in material form.Makes women look like they are wearing catsuit.

Mossy Reel Razor might feel pretty in his suit but its the women in a catsuit that peeks my interest ha ha.

Seriously though I contacted BAM and suggested to them to make full body suit for us racers. Who knows maybe they will entertain the thought for a second or two.

Having trouble picturing women in those suits Mossy... you better post some pics.. Mwahahahahahaha
