cams are cams. I don't think they were any different for California vs the rest of the states. It was only the EXUP valve and a vapor canister on the carbs.

Could be wrong though.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

I don't have any concrete proof but supposedly the cams are different in the exup 600s. Bigger in non exup motors to help with low end but that has always been just forum hearsay. Never seen any measurements to back that up. Probably easier to find a dead 49 state motor and just swap the cams.

About 8 months back I broke my exhaust cam doing a valve adjustment and picked up a set of FZR400 cams and a YZF600 exhaust cam. Shortly after I won them on eBay a member here helped me out and sold me a FZR600 exhaust cam, so I don't need the FZR400 cams or YZF600 cam. If you're interested, I can make sure they're in good shape.

I don't know if the profiles are any different, but the cam sprockets, length, and diameter of the bearing surfaces appears to be the same. I've read that you can swap YZF600 cams with FZR600 cams and vice versa, and it would make sense if FZR400 cams were also compatible, as the FZR600 motor design was initially a modified FZR400 design. my2cents

They are compatible. If you look at Web Cam Inc click here web site, the cam profiles are basically the same for all three engines.

i'll have to check out interstate batteries... im suprised target30 hasnt chimed in. i thought he ran some sort of smaller gel or agv battery?

well, i was curious about the cams because im swapping frames, so while i had the motor out i was gonna change out the cams since my bike is a 50 state and im using one of nates r6 headers on my bike, therefore eliminating the exup valve. i tried to read all the threads on the exup vs non-exup cams but it seems like nobody has concrete evidence of it "hurting" performance by removing the exup valve... hell, some guys swear by eliminating it! i bought my bike with the emissions stuff by the exhaust ports already removed so the next thing to go is the stock header...

I think Target is using an R6 battery. If I remember it's smaller than an FZR..but I'm not sure you should shoot him a PM. And have you not read my thread? I covered this very subject. My 1000 (all 1000s 89-95 were exup bikes btw) came with a full Yoshi race system and low end was non existent until I swapped in the exup header. My previous bike, a 92 FZR600, was also an exup bike and it ran great through the rpm range with the exup header-especially after I removed the air injection system and plugged the holes in the block. Suffice to say, I'm a fan of the exup header.

In my opinion though, and from what I've read and heard, the r6 header mod seems to be a good way to "compensate" for the low end robbing stock non exup header on the 600. I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. Run the header, keep your cams, tune the carbs, and enjoy the bike...
