New Help with HID system

Post by bkc4ever »

hi guys i just received my hid kit from WNYROGO and im having some trouble wit it. Well for starters i cant seem to get power at all to the ballast, the kit is not a bi-xenon, but it came with 2 hid bulbs, 2 ballast, and 2 other bulbs(which im currently using now), i just want to use one hid bulb and 1 ballast. Is there a certain way i need to hook these up. I was told that it was plug and play so i dont think i need to hardwire anything, but if i do i dont mind. If anyone can help me out let me know thx!

The way that I had them hooked up was one ballast for the hid headlight, and ran the other bulb with no ballast, the wire fro the ballast hooks right up to the back of the bulb and the other wires hook up to the existing wires. Hid buld and ballast on the right side regular bulb on the left.

Cad600 can help you with your lighting. I think he's running the same things.

Why use only 1 HID ballast and bulb? :headscratch:
You're trying to get better lighting aren't you?
I would plug them both in, I just installed a set on my fizz yesterday with HI/LOW functions. Low is HID, High is halogen. FYI- my setup isn't a Bi-zenon kit either. See if you could track down a set of replacement bulbs that will give you the H4 Hi/LO functions without having to go Bi-zenon.
Can't help you with connections with out a pic of your set up, cause there are so many out here today.

well im afraid to use both hid bulbs and ballast because i heard of some people saying that it may cause problems electrically, with the stock 90 fzr vr

You're going to have problems with the stock VR no matter what. Time to upgrade it, before it :swear up something.
HID bulbs also draws less power than the stock bulbs.
55w - stock, 35w - hid
You also may have to start the bike for the lights to come on. If your battery doesn't have enough power they wouldn't come on.
Good luck!

ok well ive come to the conclusion that one of the ballast is bad.... because i tried the other one and it works, but now i have an issue of the hid light not staying on., it will stay on for a lil bit then flicker off, im goign to try switching the bulbs to see if its just the bulb, also rogo or anyone else that may know, how do u wire ur stock headlight harness to only come on with high beam?

Those lights are plug and play , but the FZR from my previous history with the bike and the lights , Does Not send out enough current to ignite the ballast . The ballast need like over 13 volts to ignite cant remember the exact number but Trust me I've been on the same boat as you .. You will more then likely need to hardwire ..I think the Fzr's with one headlight setup will work but im not sure .. but i have a set that i had bought before when i had my fzr and tried to install them on my R1 and they would just light up the high beam <backup relay incase Hid's burned out > because even my R1's setup is like the Fzr the ballast need a certain amount of voltage to ignite .most likely older hid ballasts . the harness to the headlight is only setup to draw a certain amount of power so Hardwire will have to be the route . but if you have hi-lo which almost every H4 setup <only bulbs i belive with built in Hi-Lo> then you will lose the high beam when you hardwire unless your good with electronics . what i did was went to auto zone .. bought to H4 adapters ran the hard wires to them setup with a toggle switch under the seat and bamn ..Hid's worked .. There are other lights out there now though that are setup to be just plug and play with the slimmer ballasts but i dont think you need to change your voltage regulator just cuz the ballasts arn't igniting .. its just they need more power and the bike doesnt produce enough of it .. bottom line run hardwire or else no Hid's

good point, well i guess im going to hard wire. Refresh my memory for me, do i just run the negative and positive wires to the battery(which means i need to extend the wires) bypassing the stock harness all together?

i did it a couple yrs back but i believe i ran the wires through the frame but like i said i used a harness and didnt have to cut any wires .. but yes positive and negative and a remote line and your good togo ..if i had to do it again .. id splice the lines that connect from headlight to ballast run a line in between , mount the ballast somwhere under the tail or back by the headlight , but theres many ways togo about it , just depends how creative u wanna be ..
