Flushing Radiator

How difficult is it to flush to radiator before refilling it with fresh coolant? It's on my to do list before getting the bike back on the road and if I can do it myself opposed to having the dealership do it, I'd like to save the money.

I would imagine its very easy, unhook the line from one side of the radiator and put a hose in it and turn on the water!

flushing a radiator is easy. drain the coolant out into a bucket or container so it can be recycled. Then you can put a hose into it to rinse out the remaining little fluid in there. i use a small bottle of prestone system flush when working on a bike that hasn't had regular maintenance done to it. then flush a time or two with hose water and then once more with deionized (preferred) or distilled water. then close the system and fill.

FWIW if the coolant is newer, it can go down the sewer now, they all have to be safe for that now.

Got'cha...I have no idea where I put my Clymer's which is why I asked. Do I have to take off the gas tank cover to get at the radiator to flush/fill it?

you can dump it in your sanitary sewer depending on local laws (if your area is equipped to decontaminate etheline glycol) but obviously not the storm sewer! (just to make that clear so people aren't dumping coolant into the street sewer -- ) i hate to see litter, pollution, etc., so i always recycle all my vehicle fluids.


deputy, i believe the 600 is like the 400 (which i have) so i would say yes, you have to remove the tank cover to fill the system. the drain should be on a metal line on the front left of the engine.

Yea, the radiator cap sits at the front of the triple right underneath the tank cover. It's secured at the 'V' in the front of the frame.
