Do it, Steve!!!
it will be more powerful than an r6 with the 660 conversion.
and I i found a whole parts motor with everything i need after seeing that...i was going to buy it till i got a $500 speeding fine...
it should only cost $60 to bore...i dont know how much the kit for the 2mm overbore is though...if you can do it, then do it. Appearently someone on here had the 660 with the 2mm over bore and he talked about who he raced and beat each day...donno

The deal have with Wiseco right now s they will provide me with 2 sets of customone off pistmns i na 2mm overbore and bore thheads hoentheme whatever as well as suply the gasketsneeded tojsut take off adn bolt on.
Ok excuse my ignorance but what cc wil I have if I do a 2mm over bore. i am stupid like that Ican never figure shit out like that.
Does that make it a 640 just by a 2mm overbore?
So with a 2mm over bore what will the 400cc bike jump up to a 440?

Here is the formula:
displacement = (((bore x bore) /# of pistons) x 3.141593 x stroke x # of pistons) / 1000)
FZR400
56.00mm x 40.50mm = 399.01cc STOCK
57.00mm x 40.50mm = 413.38cc (+1mm bore)
58.00mm x 40.50mm = 428.02cc (+2mm bore)
59.00mm x 40.50mm = 442.90cc (+3mm bore = FZR600 pistons)
FZR600
59.00mm x 54.80mm = 599.29cc STOCK
60.00mm x 54.80mm = 619.77cc (+1 mm bore)
61.00mm x 54.80mm = 640.60cc (+2mm bore)
62.00mm x 54.80mm = 661.78cc (+3mm bore = YZF600 pistons)
YZF600
62.00mm x 49.60mm = 598.98cc STOCK
63.00mm x 49.60mm = 618.46cc (+1mm bore)
64.00mm x 49.60mm = 638.25cc (+2mm bore)
65.00mm x 49.60mm = 658.35cc (+3mm bore)
Hybrid FZR600 crank w/ YZF600 pistons
62.00mm x 54.80mm = 661.78cc STOCK
63.00mm x 54.80mm = 683.30cc (+1mm bore)
64.00mm x 54.80mm = 705.16cc (+2mm bore)
65.00mm x 54.80mm = 727.37cc (+3mm bore)

^thats some crazy displacement ...is 3mm even possible without adverse effects?

Vance & Hines did it back in '92 with some custom pistons. They where competing with some bored out CBR600f2 for a magazine article. If I remember correctly, the bike did not finish the test as the motor destroyed itself.
Almost everything I've herd of for the FZR derived engine is that 1mm over bore is OK, but 2+mm overbore creates cooling issues. The only exception seems to be the 400 engine. The 600 was derived from the 400 engine so it would make since that there is a limit to enlarging our engines safely.

Steve does Wiseco realise that the yzf600 bores are nikasil plated (unlike the cast iron bores of the fzr600) and that if they are bored the will have to also be re-plate? This is normally a rather expensive process which can cost about as much as the pistons themselves.
I've read a few times about rumours that if you overbore you will have "cooling issues" but have yet to hear from anyone who has actually overbored. I'm running the 660 which is the 3mm overbore with higher compression and the bike doesn't run any hotter than stock. Sounds like an old wife's tale to me.

I think you're right about the plating Drew. But remember the YZF cylinders are different from the FZR and I'm not just talking about the bore. They were designed to work with the 62mm pistons. The cylinder sleeves are a different material and the cylinder itself has different water jacket lines to help with this. Weisco's own 2mm overbore kit for the FZR has well documented cooling issues.
Hey Shred - most shops charge $60 per cylinder bore. That would be $240 for the set. But I'm sure that where Steve is located, he can get a shop to do it fairly cheap.
