on the r1 front setup I got, the guy said the front tire is dry rotted on it because its been sitting a long time...
I dont see anything dryrotted about it though.
my brother said that it probably is dryrotted on the inside....

how do I check to see if this thing is dry rotted???
it looks perfect and has still has about 85+% tread on it

Shredex,
take a look at the tech page of the WIKI that seems to have become my scribbling area, there is a URL for date look up for PIRRELLI tyres, if PIRELLI publish the code breaker then I am sure other manufactures do too.

When you find the URL's ping the list or me directly I will add them as soon as i can

Might have a flat spot from sitting too long. Try to spin it if you can and look for variation.

Shred,
The tyre was made in 2004 so unless it was in direct sunlight for all that time the chance of it dry rotting is minimal.

I have tyres on my west indian bike collection for 10+ years under wraps and out of direct sunlight not air conditioned dry garage and they are good to go riding.

The oldest tyres I have are 14 years and they do look dry and will be replaced this year if I decide that bike needs a good ride thro the Jungle. :-}

Thank you for the links I have added them to the tech info section of the WIKI and are clearly marked urls for TYRES.

The rest of you should take a read as to what info the DoT require on a tyre along with profile/sizing & speed rating data . canofworms

Sounds like that guy was pulling a little BS on you, I've never heard of a tire dry rotting from the inside?
