That wire connects to the voltage regulator (VR)
you dont have one...bike wont start without it.

get an r6 VR/rectifier

Go to walmart and pick up a battery. Its not too expensive at like $20-$30 if i remember correctly. The battery is an everstart ES12N94B1. The plug you have goes to the voltage regulator/rectifier. Here's the how-to for the upgrade that you SHOULD do since you're missing the regulator anyway.

check the battery with a multimeter and see if its dead or not.
if it is, then it might need charging...
just jump the battery with your car or something. (if the battery is good and you charge it this way, then you will kill it...lol)

get a vr URLhere
and install it to the bike and then try starting it.
and follow the link mega posted so you know how to do the mod

thats awesome. So just wire it in, and hook up a good battery. If you have jumper cables, you can just sit a battery on the ground and attach the wires with the cables. I've even started my bike with this method attached to my car battery.

still would rather not sink $20 to $30 for new battery on somthing i don't know if i want. just asking can you hook charger up to get a shot of power to start or will it fry the electrical system? i just want to start it and see about oil on bottom of engine IDK .

Yeah a charger or car battery will work. I've done both.
