I need a new shock and dont have alot of money. Are there any shocks from other bikes that will bolt right on the fzr? I dont have the money to invest in an ohlin or other aftermarket. I'm tired of my ass bouncing around on this soft ass stock shock. I'm 200-205

The closest thing I can think of is an '06 R6 or FZ1 shock. Just make sure the shock has the fork at the bottom instead of the eye. You may need to get a new spring with these conversions as well. It's my understanding that all you need to swap is a set of bushings so the top shock mount goes in correctly. But I haven't done nay of these so I'm not sure.

I have an FZ1 shock at the house I got shortly after getting the bike, and I'll be installing it soon. It cost me about $80 shipped off eBay.

The only problem I've heard of with the FZ1 shock is that the spring is alot softer than the stock FZR spring, but the compression and rebound adjustments are better. From what I understand, you can put your FZR spring on the FZ1 shock and have a cheap rear shock upgrade.

I'll try to do a write-up on the conversion as I do it.

i don't know about that shock you posted, but if you weight THAT much (no offense!) you REALLY need a custom sprung and valved shock. You should save the $800 for a new Penske, I know it's a lot, but most other solutions probably won't work worth a crap for you, or seem inexpensive at first until you find out the spring is too soft for ya.

:duh: ain't life with an FZR grand ? ........... banghead

That looks just like the one I have at the house.

Like I said, though, I haven't installed mine yet, so I can't vouch for whether or not it will work. As for the spring issue, if the shock fit, I found place to get coilover springs for autocross cars that should fit the shock, are only 1/2 inch shorter than the FZ1spring, and you can get in custom rates up to 1000 lb/in (I think stock FZR600 is like 700 or so). Only downside is that they only sell them in pairs, $100 a pair.

Being a little bigger myself (about 215-220) I'll need an upgraded spring in the future too, but like I said, I'll do a write-up on that soon.

Yes that FZ1 is pretty much bolt in. As stated, the due to angle of how the shock is mounted and design of newer bikes the spring rates on newer shocks are significantly lower than what the FZR originally came with. Also, your actual body weight is a factor. I weight 200lbs so if I were to put that shock on my fzr with having it rebuild with a heavier rated spring, the bike would bottom out on every bump and even on hard acceleration. The FZR spring will swap right in place of the FZ1 spring (on the FZ1 shock) with minimal shaving (i think 1 or 2mm if I recall) at the top. Other options from other bikes are the 05 GSXR shock and the 06 R6 shock. Other than washers or bushings to center the top mount, it's a direct swap. Again, your main concern here should be spring rates and if you want to go with another shock you'll also have to consider in cost to have it built to your specs and needs.

Yeah Rage tested a busa shock and mounted it backwards (so the reservoir was put toward the front)-did some grinding on the bottom mount as well. I had an 03 gixxer 750 shock in my bike for a while as well.
