I did the 600 mile service on my CBR Monday evening. That was a pain in itself because Honda has done a great job of packing everything into a very small space. I have never seen an oil filter cranked on so hard in my life. My brother, Dad, and I fought with it for an hour before I finally ran a screwdriver through to get it off. Replaced the oil and filter (now I see why they say change the oil after 600, yuck). I filled the oil to the top of the sight window and called it a night.

When I got home from work Tuesday (rode the bike) I check my oil and the level had dropped 1/3 down the sight window. I panicked a bit at first and then cooler heads reminded me that the new oil filter probably had to fill with oil. I checked again yesterday and it didn't seem to have moved.

What does concern me a bit is that after the bike warms up, when sitting at stop lights I sometimes get a whiff of warm/burning something coming off the radiator. It smells a bit like oil, but I can't tell for sure. Last night I also noticed a single drop sitting below the bleeder tubes. It looked like oil but smelled like gas.

Traffic was a nightmare yesterday, my entire town is under construction it seems. It took me an hour to go 3 miles so the bike was cooking hot when I got home (hot day too). Could it be that the heat caused something to leak down the bleeder lines and I don't really have anything to worry about?

I've also noticed that the tranny seems very clunky, just as clunky as my FZR at times.

maybe your gettin to the breakin point .. and i notice when i do my own work .. i over analyze everything .. but you should be under warrenty so dont sweat it

oil filters are cranked on with a specail tool and torqued yet. my 929 has a oem honda filter on it and i had to pop a hole in the filter to get it to turn then.

also i agree honda stuffs shit into to tight places but alot of newer bikes are like that. i have no noise issues with my 929, i think you breaking yours in yet. just remeber to not work on it as much as your fzr and you'll be fine.

how is the power of a new 600rr compared to your olf fzr? i know my 01 929 freaking rips but i am glad i didnt buy a nother 600 hehe.

the power difference is night and day. I've never ridden a liter bike, but it feels like I stepped up from a 600 to a 1000. the power delivery is instantaneous and smooth and it pulls a hell of a lot harder than the FZR did. i'm more convinced that this bike is going to get me into trouble than my FZR.

I would not be particularly concerned about the smell on a brand new bike. There's all sorts of lubricants and what have you that are used during the manufacturing process that are intended to burn off. If you see smoke on the other hand, you should figure out where it's coming from.

What are the bleeder tubes you're describing connected to?

Fuel tank breather and Fuel tank drain. I should have figured out what hoses I was freaking about, guess it's not an oil drip after all
