fzr 600 won't rev.

Post by crasher »

All right first the bike is a 1997 fzr 600. It's pretty beat has been dumped by previous owner ( I haven't even gotten to ride the thing yet). Wiring for the lights needs attention but from what I can tell the main wiring seems fine. My problem is the bike seems to run fine and rev fine when it is hooked up to my car battery. Sometimes it holds the rev after I release the throttle. But when I disconnect it from the car battery the bike will still idle but when I twist the throttle it just kind of bogs out but doesn't die. What tests can I do without a multi meter? And also can anyone point me in the right direction toward a decent wiring diagram. The ones I've seen aren't very descriptive. Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi mate, I'm no electrical expert but sounds like yr battery is stuffed, not holding charge. It could also be a combination of a few things but a multi meter is best to be sure ( u can but cheap on for less than $20. As for wiring diagram try http://www.fzrarchives.com/fzr600/work_ ... tails.html

Hope it helps :)

If it works hooked up to your car but dies once disconnected, it's electrical, and there isn't much you can do without a meter.

Check the security and condition of your battery, including fluid levels, condition of wires and terminals, and overall cleanliness and condition.

Thanks for the replies. The bike doesn't die when disconnected from the jumper cables. It stays idling but it just won't rev when Itwist the throttle. It only idles. Thanks again guys.

This might seem basic, but take the tank cover off and make sure your throttle cables are functioning when you twist the handle.... also make sure they go back to the starting position when you let go, you cable could be broke somewhere inside the housing or couldve come unhooked
