I just wanted to know opinions on 1125 Buell. I have an opportunity to buy an 08 or 09. I know parts would be weird to source but that's not much different than the fzr.

Edit: unfortunatly I am now FZRless... I have a few parts left over so I might put them for sale up here. I traded both the new r1 and my baby for the buell. Pic enclosed. As per an agreement with Will a video will be up soon.

I always read the bike specific forum when I'm looking at one, I've looked into the 1125 as well and remember one year (not sure which) had a leaking clutch cover. Buell is still making parts for them last I checked.

That's good to know. Thanks Will. In the pictures I saw it looks like someone sprayed soda all over it so hopefully that was just a recent wash otherwise it could be the clutch cover leaking.

Are you familiar with twins? Those bikes can really rattle your eyes in their sockets. Don't know much about that bike except I was next to one in line to get on the track and I thought the guys fairings were going to rattle off.

anyone I know that has owned or ridden a buell always has tried to say that for a harley engine its not bad but you have to remember its a sportster engine in a race bike frame. if only Eric Buell could get the V rod engine for the buell's that'd be something. With that being said is the one your looking at air cooled?

Pefrey- this would be the first twin I've ever ridden. And I didnt know it was belt drive which is pretty cool. Except if I tick someone off they could pour some brake fluid on it and keep me planted.

Rooster- I like that the biggest thing I have heard is that it has a very low center of gravity because the gas is stored in the frame? And these that I'm looking at are liquid cooled.

My buddy had an earlier model and couldn't keep the body work or air cleaner tight on it they always were rattling loose. That I believe was an '02 model he was running so by '08-'09 they may have counter balanced the engine and stopped the parts trail some complained about leaving behind. I think they are really cool bikes, always short of the mark but the same can be said of triumph sport bikes but it's more about sound and a unique ride with low volume alternatives to the japanese rocket market. Just looked up the 08-09 bikes and it looks like they dropped the old sporster engines finally in favor of the V rod engine which is why the fuel injection, water cooling and the oil tank is under the engine and its still a dry sump engine, this engine was designed for harley davidson by porsche so its a kick butt engine compared to the air cooled engine it replaced. Sorry to be so wordy, and likely a thread killer it seems to be a habit of mine, make a comment kill the thread.

Are you starting a collection of bikes, Chris? I thought you just picked up an R1 not too long ago...

I just know that Buell's have some funky stuff to them - oil in the frame or something like that to keep the center of gravity lower. YG is a big fan of Eric's though I don't know that YG has ever ridden one of his bikes.

Lol, you guys have me intrested in these buell's now. I'm going to have to check them out more. My friend was just saying he was going to buy one because he thought they were kinda different and he found them interesting.

The 1125 is neither a sportster or vrod engine, they're made by Rotax. The same company that has made engines for Aprilia, the same company that makes the can am spider engines. They're a big engine supplier

I am starting a collection. I call it "I hit 30 and want to overcompensate." But really I bought the r1 with a prior salvage title and thought I would just work on it. Surdyke is selling an 09 buell for about what they will give me for the r1 and then I wouldnt have to work on it. It doesnt sound like something is wrong in the r1 but it doesnt sound like something is right. And if I try the buell out and don't like it then it would be easier to get rid of it than the salvage. And I wouldnt have to trade both bikes in to get a newer r1.

What's wrong with the one you posted? I noticed there another 09 with a jardine slip on that has a few more scratches with almost the same miles that's over a grand more

I noticed that as well. I was going to ask them. There is also an 08 which is a 25 th anny. The guy said nothing was different except the exhaust. Weird.

Hmm, a rotax engine is pretty good stuff when put together right, and I sure haven't kept up with buell like I should have or my info wouldn't have been so out of date on the engine type. I think they are sweet bikes definitely on my list of top 10's to have owned maybe they are at the place where I'd like to have one as well. I really want an '02 triumph daytona 955 in silver as a collection bike to add to the '89 FZR 1000 I'm currently rebuilding for my list of must haves. I think you'll love the buell it just different enough to get attention and it seems they overcame the engine issues to give really good machine for the riding.
