Right i got a fzr400 few days ago and basically i took a risk with it not having any paperwork or reg plate so i have no idea what the plate is atall and dont know if its stolen etc and before i go spending a penny on it i want to find out the information about it

Ive been looking all over the internet and cant really find much to help me i dont want to register it again i just want to find out the reg plate so i can get a v5
Asking on here too see if anyone works in a main branch of Yamaha and can access the database? Or maybe any bike place do it Im unsure if thats the case or not? I can send my frame number and for them too put it in the database to check it out for me

Also the only number on my frame i can find is only 9 digits long is this right? Its a fzr400 1wg if it makes any difference?

Cheers

No idea how it works over there but I would find a Yamaha dealer and ask if they can run your numbers

I know the owner of a dealer/bike shop here and when I bought the 250 he said if it was a kwaka he could have looked up the background on it.

I'd call the DMV/gov't agency that you have to deal with and say:

"I am looking to buy this motorcycle....can you tell me if it has clear title(/registration/whatever your country calls it)? "

They will ask for VIN, and run it for you. If they say it's clear, then you take it and register

Im pretty well known in the local Yamaha dealer and we dont get along that much, Hate going in the place so avoid it at all costs if i can, Which is why ive asked on here

Cheers for the link just found out mine is a FZR400RSP EXUP 2TK (1987), I know a boy that works for another bikeshop just wasnt sure if anyplace could check up or if it was just Yamaha (Thinking about it now though they all supply parts so theoretically they all have access to the same database?)

Still if anyone works for one drop me a pm

ReelRazor - Its the DVLA over here and im trying too avoid them really, Everyone ive spoke too says there an absalute joke to get a hold of and if the bike has been off the road for a few years they'l say they cant find the records and make you re-register for a cost, Maybe as a last resort ill try get in contact with them

personally i wouldnt have touched it till i could confirm if its stolen or not...if it is, shop the theiving bastards or send the boys round to remove vital body parts :yikes:

If you need a check doing you could try the local car dealer who will charge you a fiver for a HPI check based on the vin number. This SHOULD give you all the details including plate number and history of the bike

It was a spur of the momeny thing i went too pick up a cbr600 and he offered me the fzr too on the spot so i thought ah ill take it ill sort v5 out when im home big mistake haha

Spoke to Yamaha earlier they said this so had my doubts of finding out from them straight away

We can try and search the VIN number for you but chances are it will only identify the exact model and country of origin. Most FZR400RR’s were grey imports and not recorded thru Yamaha UK.

After running the number through

The VIN number comes up on the parts system but nothing else.
The exact model is FZR400R 1987 Model Type Code – 2TK0

Boy was pretty helpful really, Said if i can find out the last owners name he can run that through the computer too see if it comes back with anything eg if it was there for an MOT or servicing so if it is in the system theyl give me the registration number that way
After that i thought about contacting other bike places that do MOTs but would the frame number show up an MOT if it was done there?

Try this bloke - YODI. Email - yodi@blueyonder.co.uk Phone 07766 628887

He can HPI the bike using the frame number and can provide you with the bikes registration plate. He will email you the result. I used him for a race FZR400 3TJ bike.

He charges £23 for a HPI based on frame number only. Got his details from this thread on visordown.

http://www.visordown.com/forum/parts-ac ... 78324.html

And your 9 digit frame number is correct.

Hope he can help you.

Chris

Most cases the police can be called to do a vin inspection to find out if it is stolen or not. I also hope you got a "bill of sale" with it, for your sake?

here in the states all we do is print a vin check form off the dmv site and then call the police to fill it out and run the vin, if it comes back stolen and as long as we have a bill of sale there is no trouble for us, but loss of property. bill of sale can be hand written or printed. But will have to have both partys signature on it and dated. Im not sure how it works over there either, but can't be too different.
