I have a opportunity to purchase a 1988 fzr750ru with 4k miles on it .. Does anyone know what the value might be ? .. it is close to exc condition other than a small crack in the fairing and a scrape on the belly pan... Does anyone know what changes were made to the 89 AND 90 ? ? what I read is the only change in 89 was the titanim rods and no changes in 90 ?? I think they made these for 3 years ?? hard to find info on them..... any help is appreciated .. thank you

What was the new price in 1988? what is he asking now? I have never even laid eyes on that model in real life so you may have an awesome find if the price isn't overboard. And the all telling question how far are you willing to go to buy what you want to have?

The 750 is a neat but odd bike. Yeah, only 200 brought into the US. The gearing is for the race track. That makes it a pain riding at low speeds in town. Also the suspension was setup very stiff. Iirc the '89 or '90 was totally redone and called the FZR 750 OWO1.

THX FOR YOUR INPUT.. I JUST HAVE HAD A HARD TIME FINDING ALOT OF INFO ON THIS BIKE.... WHAT I KNOW THAT THERE WAS 200 OF THE 87 FZR750RT AND THE 88 FZR750RU BROUGHT IN THE STATES I DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY WERE MADE (PROBABLY A LOT ).. IT IS A NEAT LOOKINGALMOST SHOW ROOM BIKE BUT IT IS HARD TO FIND OUT WHAT IT IS WORTH. .. IT APPEARS THAT THE 89/90 IS THE ONE TO HAVE BUT GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

I'd say the bike is worth what you think it's worth. $3500 seems like a fair price if it is in the condition you say it is. It's a neat, rare bike. If you were to treat it as such you'd have yourself a cool collector to show off. I'd have dig out some old magazines and brochures to be sure but I think there were only 1000 of the 750R per year made.

Thx for the information. I probably would not ride it a lot and I imagine I could change the gearing somewhat to make it a little more streetable. When I first saw this bike i kinda imagined that is was super rare as most of the 200 would of hit the track and the story goes on from there..

Buy it man, what are you waiting for i've seen 79's and mid 80's bikes that weren't that rare go for more money than $3500. Get it paid for before someone else asking the same questions scoops it. I met a ex racer that has a 1989 suzuki GSXR 750 race edition that sits in his living room that is 1 of 20, which I know this Yamaha isn't that rare but his was appraised at $35K American. What more can I say do a title search and find out how many are left registered in the US. It may be worth more like $10k to the right collector.

Sounds like u cant go wrong...if its in excellent condition and with its "rarity" its resale value can only get better ..... out of the 200 imports how many would be left in 1 piece AND in good nick?
