my fzr sounds rattly when cold is this normal?

Not normal unless somethings loose. Where is the rattle coming from? Is your bike an exup with the stock header? Could be the valve needs service.

carbs out of sync make it sound worse than it is,.... just a thought

Cam chain tensioner? Carefully remove bolt (it's undrr spring tension) and gently press a screw driver down onto tensioner just GENTLY and see if it will drop down a click. Might sort out the rattle.
