"Bike Night"

Post by thatkid »

So I went out after work last night with a co-worker. We head over to the restaurant where his wife works and in the lot is a 954RR, an R6, 2 ZX6R's, and something else. The R6 was decked out for stunting and all of them had nice slip-ons and little extras. The 954 was done up all pretty with some mirror block offs, bolt kits, Two Brothers CF exhaust, etc. So we go in for a bit and eventually see them all leaving. I make the comment to my buddy how I wish we were outside cause they were probably staring at my bike wondering what it was. Anyhow we finished up a few minutes later and headed outside only to find all of them standing around my bike. All their girlfriends were sitting on the sidewalk waiting for them to finish looking at the bike. When they saw me walking up the girls were like "They're trying to figure out what the hell your bike is." So we chatted for a bit and they went on their way. They were stunters so I didn't have much in common with them so it was a quick chat. Once they were gone my buddy just looks at me and says, "I can't believe you called it on the nose."

I love how my bike is 16 years old and I bought it for 1500 bucks and they are all crowded around it. Any one of their bikes was worth 4 times my bike but they were all interested in mine. Always makes me smile. The oddball bike is the one that gets noticed.

It was a good night.

Makes you feel good knowing you did the work that people are so curious about. I get a few comments per week on mine and what is it?

People who know what an FZR is always tell me I've got the cleanest looking one they've ever seen (don't know about that). The people who don't know what an FZR is don't believe me when I tell them it's a 17 year old bike.

TK,
THAT my boy is what Modding Bikes is about !!!!!

My pal & I had two similar bikes Red Arrow & Green Bean and we would park up in town and the traffic would slow to a crawl (you can see them on my site )

We both went to a custom car show at a Mall and we got more attention than the cars, now that is aREALLY good feeling and worth all the cursing & swearing that you do thinking "oh this is just a bolt on idea" and thenspend 5 days drilling grinding & making bits to get other bits out of the way so it WILL work.

Glad you enjoyed the moment welcome to a VERY SELECT club

IT's funny you say that Mega.. I went to our local cruise nights for classic cars here this evening for the first time with the bike this year.. I had ran into a couple of friends from HighSchool and one from work when I picked up my wife from work (the "night" is held in the local Costco parking lot and my wife works at Costco) so I decided to head home and get the bike.. Well I got there and a few people were lookin at it, and then when I said the bike was 20 years old, my buddy's wife, well she didn't believe me until I showed her the manufactured sticker on the frame.. :)

So after a lil bit there we went down to another hangout where everyone goes afterwards (yeah, kinda stupid but usually more bikes there than cars at this point).. I'm sittin on the curb in the parking lot and talkin with another friend of mine.. Some chick who's there with her boyfriend or whatever and they had a GSXR750 I believe, couldn't tell the markings, but that's what I'm sure I heard him tell someone, but anyways, I heard her talking and say, "OMG cute.. look at that rear tire, it's soooooo tiny... "

I'm thinking, I wouldn't trade my bike for yours straight up anyways.. But like the others here, the bike that got the most looks was, you guessed it, the FZR.. :)

It actually IS amazing how many people look at it and say "holy shit" .. and it makes my day :D

I live in a town dominated by Harleys and the occasional brand new crotch rocket, so the stares I get occasionally are pretty awesome. It's an amazing feeling to be eating dinner at Moe's on their outside porch, and have some guy in a brand new, turbocharged, silver 350Z pull up and then spend 10 minutes walking around your bike admiring it. I know it's only 11 years old to some of the other guys older bikes but my bike is still worth less than 10% of what his car is worth......

Agreed That's what I loved about it. That guys 954RR was well over mine even with all the mods I'd done. Hell, his slip on was a 1/3 of what I paid for my bike. They all figured out the R6 tail obviously, and they had the R1 front down although their data was off a bit about years. But I swear I saw some jaws hit the floor when I said it was an FZR originally. Someone thought I had a kawi swinger because of my modified design. That was great.

Still my favorite two comments have been by people that said it looked like something out of Mad Max. I love it. I just wish I could get a little more done to it so it'd be finished. With it being swapped to a 400 frame this winter I can't muster up any motivation to finish off some of the trouble areas. But apparently it still looks good. :headbang:

I remember last year when I had a couple of Apple ipod decals, so I put them on the tank cover. Folks would walk around my bike wondering "What the hell is that thing?" I have NRC covers, and the only thing that says Yamaha is the master cylinder and the right case cover. I used to tell 'em, " It's a Mac. Apple dabbled in motorcycles for a year. Limited Edition and all that..." Y'Know what? They BELIEVED me!
