Most of those apply to us here in the USA as well. But it varies state to state. I'm just glad that I don't live in a state with too harsh of regulations for cars and I have no motorcycle inspection at all.

I wonder how they will check to see if the vehicle is chipped or not.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

Something is lurking, waiting, wanting to be built......It calls to me from the darkness....

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel....Then I realize that it is the train coming to run my ass over....

aside from a programmer being visible in the car or under the hood you really cant. i know this cause i work at a ford dealer as a diesel mech and we all know how people are with there 6.0 powerstrokes, everyone of them is chipped, but even with our ford specific programing the best we can do is reflash the ecu back to stock. we cant know if there was a program to begin with. so it will be hard to figure out for sure, but ill be happy if the headlight law comes into effect, i hate those HID's

so far i haven't seen one bit of written law that states all HID's are illegal. the way the law is written is open to interpretation

this happens to be NY state law but the same rules are the same

§ 376. All lights, signals and reflectors shall be of a type and design approved by the commissioner. No light having a candlepower rating in excess of thirty-two candle power shall be used on any vehicle, unless it is of a type approved by the commissioner. The commissioner is hereby authorized and empowered to adopt and from time to time amend such regulations inconsistent with this section, governing the size, type, construction, location, and use of lights, signals and reflectors, including the exemption of specific vehicles from the requirements of this section where the construction of such vehicles makes compliance herewith impracticable, or impossible.

§ 375 b

(b) All lamps used on a motor vehicle except a motorcycle shall be so arranged, adjusted and operated, as to avoid dangerous glare or dazzle. The upper outline of any beam of dazzling light projected to the left of the longitudinal axis of the vehicle by the lowermost light distribution of a headlamp designed to produce more than one light distribution, or by the single light distribution of any other lamp used on such a motor vehicle, shall not rise higher than the lamp center at a distance of twenty-five feet nor higher than forty-two inches at a distance of seventy-five feet. In each case, the height of the beam shall be measured from the plane upon which the vehicle stands and the distance shall be measured from the lamp projecting the light.

basically they can say yeah its illegal to anything they so choose to when they see fit, i say f*ck them and that rule, since candle power is a measurement of a "hot spot" of the beam of light and a obsolete measurement and bulbs are not rated in candle power there is no way to accurately enforce this law, and according to their law 1 standard 55w bulb is illegal since they produce around 62 total candle power.... or any light that is seen through a dirty windshield or glasses is "illegal" since it produces glare and "dazzle" so if the ballast, bulb and housing are dot approved and aimed to there standards technically they are legal, since the commissioner approved them for road use. and there is no written law saying you cant use them in another application.

In NJ, they have completely stopped inspections on bikes! The is the first year. They have also scaled back inspection on car and trucks as well. I took my 1994 c1500 truck with tints and really load pipes in a few weeks age and passed right through :) state budgets cuts forced the inspections to be reduced.

No inspections on anything in Minnesota. Gotta love it. Still plenty of police though...

Seriously??? Damn, I HAVE to move back now! :headbang: I'm totally dreading trying to get my hybrid registered here in CA once it's finished... banghead

As for there being lots of cops - I've got no problem with that. I don't ride like a squid and it would be really nice to be able to ride in a place where people don't get away with driving like complete jack*sses (at least to the extent that they do here)... :swear

I shouldn't say there are NEVER any inspections. They do an inspection on vehicles that haven't ever been registered like DIY motards or kit cars, but if it's been registered anywhere in the US, Minnesota's DMV will honor it. A popular strategy in the Mpls. area for getting iffy things titled is to "sell" the bike to someone who lives in Wisconsin, have them register it, and then have the bike "sold" back to you with its shiny new WI registration. So maybe it's a little bit sketchy, but it works!

Got it. So I'm essentially in the same boat regardless. Thanks for bringing me back to reality. LOL!
