shock swap help ASAP which one?

Post by abs929cbrrr »

i know the gsxr shocks work...found a 08 gsxr 1K shock with a spring rate of 10.1kg but the stock spring is rated for a 100lb rider per race tech. i know alot of you guys have done 06-07 R6 shocks with a spring rate of 9.8kg rated for a 190lb rider. i am 130lbs and the 08 R6 shock is the same rating as 06-07.

i need to know asap who has used this if it hold them and the bike weight up and what your weight is...the stock shock holds me on the softest setting...its just old and sucks. the busa shock is gonna be to hard to me i think...

i got until lunch to decided which one i want....so help me out....i do like the adjustment style of the r6 better then the gsxr, but i like the higher rating of the gsxr better but the sping is only rated for 100lbs rider so i am scared she;ll bottem out like my last gsxr 1k shock.

I know your looking at these to save a little money on the build, take a look here http://www.traxxion.com/ They can help you with the shock. They also have good information about spring rates. You could always put a different spring in the shock that way it will be work correctly for your wieght.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

well i am not going 08 R6 shock at all....i forgot what mrfreeze told me and i do not feel like doing what he did. i want to be able to access the adjustablity screws.

i will work on my tail swap and i think i will have room for the 08 gsxr 1K shock...i guess ill just have to get revalved and sprung for myself then...which is not that bad i guess.

I dont care about fab work, that simple to do. just didnt like how the 06-08 r6 shock must go in the fzr frame.

The route I went was a pain in the ass but I am happy with the results. The adjustor screws are accessible, I just need to use one of those cheepo 90* flathead screwdrivers you can pick up from a basket at the counter at the autoparts store. But they are nicely hidden too and it really helps clear up a lot of space in the undertail. As far as appearance and accessiblity goes I couldnt be happier, but I cant comment on the ride yet. Ive got it set pretty stiff and preload all the way up. I dont know the exact numbers off the top of my head but the R6 spring rate is considerably less. FZR is 700+ and the R6 is 500+. Im 170 so it will probably be a bit soft for me, even at full preload. But I will try it out and may love it. If Im not happy, then all I need is a new spring for the shock. And theres a better aftermarket support for the R6. I do love the adjustability of it, but I will def need to firm it up so I can carry a passenger safely.
