Help: Carbs to Fuel injectors
I keep getting asked if I have done a swap with my carbs over to a F.I. system. I am wondering if this is possible to do. And if so, what are more benefits to having this other than being able to leave the bike out for a year to sit, then come back later and able to start it up w/o having to clean the carbs?

The answer you seek is YES it can be done not exactly a 5 minute job though.Brutal Tooth wrote:I keep getting asked if I have done a swap with my carbs over to a F.I. system. Take a look at the Megasquirt project also Megajolt project. via Google
the first is an open source FI system the second is a tunable ignition system to work to get the max power from the engine right across the rev range.
This is one Mod you will have to research & refine for yourself as the theory is all there so are circuits but the mapping for the FZR and your engine itself well .................................
You might also want to look at Jaycar of australia who have several project books on primarily auto electronics but they do also sell the kits of the electronics involved . I have a couple of their gizmo's like the "speed healer" system for Digital tacho & speedo controls .
Re: Help: Carbs to Fuel injectors
Bimota used to make EFI bikes that used FZR600 and FZR1000 engines. You could searching for those parts but then you'd still have to be creative with fitment and numerous other things. It's not impossible to do (I even thought about it when I had an FR600) but either way it's pretty involved.

The Yamaha Omega ( I can't remember the real name but the touring bike with the wierd front end ) used the engine from a FZR1000 but came with FI. If you realy want to do this, maby some parts from this bike will be usefull?? Throtle-bodies etc??

Bimota & Omega parts will be like gold filled diamond tipped hens teeth to find & mega expensive. Read the Blogs of the Mega projects some one somewhere has done this and will have gotten bits to work just a case of being patient & careful with your choices.chefen2006 wrote:The Yamaha Omega ( I can't remember the real name but the touring bike with the wierd front end ) used the engine from a FZR1000 but came with FI. Re: Help: Carbs to Fuel injectors
The advantage of fuel injection over carbs, are.
Carbs rely on the venturi (a restriction) in the carb body, to increase the airflow speed, thus reducing the air pressure, forcing fuel into the venturi.
FI throttle bodies don't have the venturi (restriction) = more efficiency and power, not to mention less pollution.
