A far cry from a stock 400
Here is my bike (farings off as am still working on my front to rear torque procedure before race day.)
1988 FZR-400 frame 3EN model
1999YZF600R engine "built by Spyder" with Wisecon sponsored 2m over bore single ring high compression race pistons and a slew of internal work
2007 R6S mendel front end
3TJ swingarm with a Honda F3 rear wheel
I started her up and warmed her up. I need to mess with the jetting a bit with these new high compression 2mm overbore pistons in there now. Anyone know why she would back fire at lower RPMs? I suspect she needs more fuel. So to start is that needles down a bit? bigger main jets? I got Uli looking at it this weekend but any help is appreciated.
I have NO extra jets here in China so I would have to remove the carbs pull the jets and go have a machine shop duplicate with different sizes.
I can get it done but man what a pain in the ass that would be. Other option is to call Sudco USA and get a set flown over ASAP.
That might actually be worth the money.
Note 2 things:
1st can not really rev it up as she is warmed up but new pistons so I did not want to whack the throttle.
2nd the clacking sound is actually the flat slides in the Keihin 33m FCR flat slide carbs. nothing else is rattling around in there.
Here are a few sound bites:

I did warm her up and take her around the complex a bit. Seems OK but not perfect. just ok a bit more fine tuning and I will be good to go kick some ass! he he he he

Maybe a bit of showing off ha ha. It does have a nice sound. I can't wait until the new pistons are seated then I can whack that throttle and get a good sound bite for ya.
I might be at the open track day on friday. If so I wil get a sound bite going by the stands. Should sound pretty sweet.

I'm quite impressed with the build Steve. Can't wait to see this screamer on the track

Re: A far cry from a stock 400
Thanks mate but I would more impressed with myself if the damned bike did not have a major oil leak at the track today.
Ok So A bit of HELP!!!! Needed.
If you take of the left side engine cover there is the stator and flywheel.
I will take off the fly wheel this weekend and see what the issue is built there is oil pissing out from somewhere behind the flywheel.
This does not seem good.
I slid through a hair pin at the end of a straight at about 100KM/h it sucked my as puckered and when I looked down.. to my horror, my boot was covered in oil…. Game over.
So what is behind there and more important is it something I can take off and replace like a seal or do I need to take the whole frigin engine down split something open replace and build back up?
Whatever the part is I will need to Fed ex overnight it in. However on the lighter side took three sessions to break her in running her up down up down. Toward the end of the third session about half way through I got her up into some RPMS that meant something. Man this bitch will scream when I get the oil issue fixed and drop the needles a setting.
WFO is insane torque and with a 14 T front and 47T rear sprocket I am basically just using the throttle with no shifting out of 3rd or 4th gear for half the track. It’s wild! IT is a short choppy track and very technical.
I need to resolve this issue. I have a race on may 9th.

Is ther esupposed to be tha tmuch oil in teh staer/flywheel area? there wasn't last season.. or mayeb I jstu had it tighter. I wil get eh RTV high temp gasket stuffout I have no gasket for it now.
Is original design suppose do thave oil soacked stator? If so then easy fix for me I hope this is the case.

In short...
NO!!
should be a dry cavity. No oil bath stator.
It is either the crank seal (easily replaced from the OUTSIDE)...OR, the crank is bent (easily determined by turning the engine over and watching the hub/crank)..
OR, you have a crack at one of the stator cover bolts.

Re: A far cry from a stock 400
OK Thanks I am thinking the crank case seal is the issue. I will know tonight.
The crank was just reworked by racecranks.com It has less than 4 actual running hours on it. Also it ws running fine last seaon and Ok for the first session and half the second session yesterday.
breaking in the engine I did to even get up in the power band much.
Thanks for the help with the seal.

Re: A far cry from a stock 400
Well I have been thinking and thinking about this all day. Why is this thing not running right
I got home and changed out the accel coils from the original stock ones. Which I also used last season.
Broom broom started right up purrs like a kitten and when she warmed up she sounded geeaaaarrrrreat! (Tony the Tiger grrrrrrreat)
Listen to her now Mwahahahaha.
View My Video
A lot better sounding! IMHO
I do not have the time to mess with the accel coils and figure out why it runs 3 ok and one intermittently.
Maybe a wire connector or somehting simple.
but no time and these work.
I removed the stator tonight as well as the voltage regulator and all that extra wiiring.
