fuel pump swap?
hey guys fuel pump took a dump on me.the bike is a 96 600 and im too cheap to buy a yamaha one for this old of bike. woould a fuel pump from the parts store work? i found one at my local oreillys 4-7 psi pump. is that still too much pressure? they also have a regulator that goes from 1-6 psi.i know that the pump runs for like 5 sec. then shuts off then its sposed to run again once bike is started, but does it run all the time its running? i see there are no return line so what happends if it gets too much fuel? thats why i was kinda wondering about an aftermarket pump. i could find a used one but who knows if itll work for than a day or two. any info or knowledgewould be greatly appreciated.
Re: fuel pump swap?
The short answer? Yes that one will work. The long answer? The pump Yamaha put on these bike ran at roughly 5 psi if I remember correct. I've seen a few 1000's running on VW pumps with no issues. We had 1 member here using a Mr Gasket similar to this one (<- Click there) with no issues. As long as the pressure is within spec you should be with the pump you found.
