Yeah, people really are stupid. Last week I saw a really young (and small and skinny as a little girl on top of that!) guy ride off on a nice Honda RC-51 (RVT1000R) with $2000 Akrapovic's wearing shorts, tennis shoes (laces not even tight), tank-top and a helmet, not even gloves. Dude if he goes down even at 30 mph there will be nothing left but the bike and helmet. No brains at all. Get a Ninja 250 you can actually hold up and some leathers for God's sake!!

+1 on natural selection. wouldn't want to see an rc51 get trashed though, nice bikes.

and +1 on the ninja 250 (my first street bike, great bikes to throw around in the twisties). glad you're doing ok man. take care of yourself

See that's what I just don't get.. I can't say anything about gear cause I was just as guilty as any of the other "dummy's" who don't wear any when I went down.. But the helmet saved my life.. or at least the skin on my face. I never hit my head full on, thats why I needed surgery on my shoulder :) .. Why people don't wear helmets is beyond me. It just doesn't make any sense.

Here's what mine looks/looked like after the crash:

There's nothing structurally wrong with it.. It's just scraped to hell. I won't wear it again on the bike because it's been in a wreck, but I'm thankful that it was on my head. IDK

I will.. just waiting for the right time to chrome up the piece of steel I hit to cause the crash.. :)

I'll get the pics from my parents at the accident scene tomorrow and post em in a dif. thread so I don't hijack this one.

Yam, So glad your OK.

Get checked.

Helemet saved my life a few times as well. 2 high sides in particular and a few lowsides that cause a head slam to the race track surface.

Worst was a 110 mile an hour get off at road america. pile driver in to the ground. Last thing I remember was trying to shove my brains back in my skull...then realizing my helmet held and my brains were in fact NOT falling out of my head (After teh bike ran my head over).

My last thoughts were. "Cool my helmet worked!" Then it went black and I rememebr thinking "Oh well, I am dead anyway... at least it didn't hurt." Then I woke up with multiple broken bones and wished I would have stayed dead.

Even with a helmet I have cracked my skull, literally fractured it once..once...once...once er uh with no ill effects...effects...effects (And that was a road accident - high sided when t-boned at only 30mph)...who said that? is there an echo in here?

No helmet - no life
Know helmet - know life. :duh:

I like life, I wear my helmet.
