lost air intake tube..
1993 FZR600- The fairing to frame air intake tube blew off on the freeway the other day. Is this an important ting? I don’t have an air box on my bike. It has a KN twin pod filter set up. Can I run it without the tubes?
I AM SUCH A YAMAWHORE!

It's little more than cosmetic, I wouldn't sweat it.

Re: lost air intake tube..
It has little to no effect on the bike. As a matter of fact, mine ran better without them. Odd too, because I didn't think they did anything - fact is, at higher speeds they create a little blip in my throttle response.
Plus, I couldn't use them due to my stabilizer being in the way:

ERR,
not quite true in cooler climbs they just give about a1degree air temp drop round the outlet , however at higher temps and speeds they do add to the cool air round that part of the engine and carbs which does have effect on engine efficiency.
As most of you have noticed it is not a lot and may just be noticeable at 80Mph in Arizona summers
Re: lost air intake tube..
I think the fact that similar versions of the engine, such as the FZR600R, Fazer 6 and the Chundercat, do without them from the factory demonstrates how useful Yamaha themselves think the are. If a bit of plastic costing 50p to manufacture produced any worthwhile benefit then I think Yammy would've jumped at the chance to include them on the Fizzers offspring.

hi George .I think they would work better if they were aimed at the carb bowls to keep underside of tank and petrol in carbs cool.yamaha_george wrote:BMiller wrote:The "frame coolers" do nothing.........take the other off too.

Im thinking of geting a tube underneath with lots of small holes facing upwards and the end blocked off like a sprinkler pipe.
i have heard hot carbs and tank can cost 5hp.What do you think?

I think a heatshield might be more benificial. I just put one on my old gsxr ,but haven't tried it out yet. What do you guys think?
